I find “hey baby, do you chill here often?” A good start when trying to date a refrigerator

@@Vintage55Restorations ☺️ i just wish i could have one for my house, but i fear it would look silly in my crappy 1980s ranch. Hoping to leave texas once my youngest turns 18 and im no longer court ordered to stay, and can buy myself a 100+ year old house and restore it. Then i can finally have one!

Back in the 60's, My parents had a GE (No shelves on the door) Refrigerator that looked like the refrigerator on the I Love Lucy Show. The Only thing it needed replacement for was the Cord. And a latch handle (Never got that). That refrigerator was still working even after my Dad passed in 1995. They might have aquired it the late 1950's. It last a Long time! They don't make them like they use to. 😊

I usually find dating fridges results in a very one sided dinner conversation. :-(

I have one restored GE fridge in our home from late 30's and one I am restoring. I see you have a lot of drawers on the shelf in your video. Do you sell those? I also have a 1934 Coke machine restored I need a cap catcher for. Do you have anything for coke machines? Would like to talk to you about the refrigerator's.

I love this. Apparently, my GE LM-100 fridge is from 1954. Thank you!!

Great video my current project a GE I thought was a 1961 from what my mother in-law told me. But definitely a latch so I will do more research on it. Also my first restoration was a 1953 Frigidaire and fits the time line perfectly.

In some states They used to have a law that you had to remove the door latch before storing or dumpling them after more than one kid suffocated over time playing hide and seek.

I have a 1935-1938 GE CK-3 Monitor Top with SO2 refrigerant. Excellent fridge that's ice cold and uses very little electricity. The monitor top was introduced in 1927 and was made until 1938 in new form and early 40s for refurbished.

I have a 1953 Philco (very similar to the model you showed in this video) and the model # ends with an "LH" - I've noticed that mine opens with a left hand swing, which most of all I've seen online all open with the hinges on the right side. How often were doors opening a certain direction?

Ammonia is still used in Europe for refrigeration. 1950s was the best era of products in America IMO. Everything was a work of art that functioned for years.

This might be a dumb question but would you happen to know if the coolerator c7 is just an ice box or if it’s an actual refrigerator?

I just came across an old Philco I’m hoping to restore and am dying to find the yr. This video helped get it between 52-58 but the serial number on the upper back comes up with nothing. Anything other advice for finding the date?

I always ask, should I buy a newer fridge that just has the Vintage look or an actual vintage fridge. I ask because I'm not a person whose handy and wouldn't know how to fix it when and if it should break, and If repair men now a days would actually look at a Vintage fridge... but I just love older things, especially from the 1950s and 60s.

I have never understood why they no longer make refrigerators with lazy susan shelves! We are always finding things in the back area of the refrigerator that we have forgotten about, and has gone bad. Lazy Susan shelves would solve that problem!

I have a 1940's Westinghouse, mechanical latch, no door shelves, about 4' tall. I had to replace the door gasket, and the door now seals all the way around as far as I can tell. Problem is, water droplets form on the underside of the door, outside of the gasket and it'll eventually rust the door out. I have no idea how this is happening.
@GeoffreyFlores
@GeoffreyFlores 7 ай бұрын
Water forming outside means condensation. Your door seal is not functioning correctly. Try placing a piece of paper between the door seal gasket and the unit. If the paper easily slips out then your seal is not working.
@yooper5638

That’s what it was; it wasn’t sealing at the bottom. I fixed it and no more problems so far.

I just found your site (looking for a way to rejuvenate hardened rubber seal) and will subscribe! I found (for free) a beautiful 50's single door Kelvinator, which I cleaned and had a good "robin's egg" blue seal... I met a guy while out and about, we chatted and he was looking for a garage/beer fridge... I've got the one yer' looking for... ..his name was Kelvin (I kid you not) and the rest is history....
