In 4 NCAA finals, Daton Fix has not scored a single offense point, only escapes, stalling points, and penalty points. 2019 vs Suriano, 2 escapes. 2021 vs RBY, 2 stalling points. 2022 vs RBY, 2 escapes. 2024 vs Vito 2 escapes and 1 penalty point.

In 2019 they called a horrible stalemate. Suriano was gonna get ridden out if they didn’t call that stalemate. I’d say fix in 2019 was his best chance to win a natty.

@@lun4gab3 the bills lost 4 in a row. If fix was a 4x finalist without the extra year of eligibility it’d make sm more sense. Fix lost to Vito his “senior” year or really just his junior year to Vito in the semi finals in 2023. He’s a 4x finalist 5x All American, a 5x all American who placed at ncaas 2,2,2,4,2. So fix’s only winning side bracket loss is to Vito who beat him in his 4th finals appearances which was only due to the extra year. Actually is there another extra year from the Olympic Redshirt fix took in 2019-20 after he got suspended

In Fix’s 4 NCAA championship appearances (2019 vs Suriano, 2021 vs RBY, 2022 vs RBY, and 2024 vs Vito) he has only ever scored points for escapes, stalling, and locked hands. Never once had he gotten a takedown, reversal, riding time, or back points in his 4 championship matches. Might be the least offensive wrestler in D1 History

@@ImOnlySIeepingin freestyle, a full on 2 handed push out of bounds doesn't count as a push out point, it needs to be during wrestling action. Also, there needs to be a foot stepping out to be counted as a step out point. Ways wrestlers dodge this rule is by dropping to their knees during their defensive position so if they go out of bounds then it's just back to middle with no points awarded. But at times offensive wrestlers use it to their advantage because they can get to the legs and hope for a step out point without ever actually finishing a takedown properly. Its not a perfect rule, just something else to think about.

20+ minute match because of all the blood time and challenges. Vito was the aggressor and showed that sitting back and playing defensive can burn you. Shout out to the 4x’ers. It extremely rare and based on this year Mesembrink can’t join, Welsh won’t, Shapiro can’t, Kasak (who did a hell of a job running off 7 straight on the back side) won’t. Just shows how hard this thing is. Kasak wrestled up at 149 due to Van Ness’ injury. Since the 2021 year is not counted Kasak can redshirt and come back at 141 in 2025-2026. Penn St is going to have a log jam of wrestlers who can start anywhere except there

I saw an interview of Fix after the match, and he was smiling, and I thought "Good for him to be able to smile after the way things turned out - he must've seen the bright side." And I couldn't think of why, but I thought of the Bills documentary I saw on Netflix last month. I'd seen some, fell asleep, and woke up towards the end when the Bills interviewees each smiled for the camera - which I thought was a good thing to see, having gone through that much heartbreak. ... but when I watched the parts I missed, up through the end, I started to think that, based on the way they spoke about it, they were probably smiling for the camera to a large extent. Watching Fix speak, it felt similar. And then I finally realized why I thought of the 90's Bills when seeing the thumbnail of his interview.

Fix should have wrestled the first two periods with the same intensity he had in the last 15 seconds. It kind of breaks my heart because he had the potential to win this thing. Nothing against Vito. He's the real deal. It's just hard to see fix not wrestle to his potential.

Daton was a 4-time high school state champion in 6a in Oklahoma which is very difficult to do. He has wrestled at Oklahoma state at a time when the program has had a lot of difficulties. He has been a legendary leader for the team and one of the best wrestlers of the most historic program in ncaa history. How many people would give their left big toe for one ncaa runner up? Let’s be reasonable here, he is a 5 time big 12 champion, and an overall record of over 120 wins and only 7 total loses. Those that say he has no offense are simply being ridiculous. He has multiple takedowns and near-falls in almost all of his matches throughout the year. He scores countless team points and is a crowd favorite at every dual. He is a former world team member and has collected a world silver. I cannot believe the hate for him lately and the ironic thing about it is that he is one of the best humans in the world of wrestling. The people that have posted on here so much hate need to look in the mirror and ask themselves why they feel the need to pile on. It’s pathetic.

The reality of this match is this: Daton tried to wrestle Vito straight up last year and got smoked. Daton knows Vito is the better wrestler so this year Daton decided not to wrestle. He hoped to evade, move, circle, counter, stall, look for help from the official and his coach. He lost in the worst way you can lose as a wrestler. He didn’t wrestle.

Even John Smith knew Fix was not going to win. Fix, is purely defensive and reactive, does not initiate. It is almost like he’s scared to initiate and end up in a situation he’s uncomfortable in. Can’t win the Big stage like that.

Arujau wasn't upset about not being awarded the take down at 22:56, he was upset that the ref was counting him on the leg for a stall call (which you only do when they have secured the take down) therefore making him need to wrestle different as if he had the takedown. The point is he might have secured the takedown if he knew he didn't have it yet and didn't have to let go of the leg.

He wrestles not to lose and definitely one of the biggest stallers. I mean obviously he's extremely immensely talented you don't become a four-time division 1 All-American but whenever he's on that main stage semi-final or final if I was the officiating crew I'd be hitting him for stalling in the first period and could have been hit for fleeing the mat. What toys and composure veto has when you're getting screwed over and screwed out of points
