Daughter sees colour for the first time (colorblind)

I had very low expectations when i bought these glasses online. i really expected Edie to say nothing changed but when she hugged me i knew..
What a time we live in, where i can be told last week my daughter is color blind, and then today i was able to fix it!

I was like 10 when I was finally diagnosed with colorblindness. I could not differentiate green from blue at all. Teachers mostly thought I was being creative or a misbehaving depending on the mood. To the folks wondering how this could possibly happen: it's really not all that rare for things like this to get overlooked. Especially in girls! There is a common misconception it's only something that happens to boys, but it isn't. To the kid it's just how it's always been. How are they to know the colors they saw were "wrong" when they have nothing to compare it to? Unfortunately these kinds of glasses aren't made for my kind of colorblindness yet, but hopefully one day!

Hey, noticed that you were talking about how she now knows what color really looks like, just wanted to point out that colorblindness is caused when the rods and cones in the eye either don't work properly or don't exist, so while the glasses might enhance the colors and make the contrast better, she won't actually see 'real' colors, because glasses can't do anything about what light her eyes are capable of seeing. I believe other colorblind people have also spoken about how these glasses don't work. (This could be incorrect. This is from a google search.)

It is truly a modern miracle that we have glasses that can fix that problem now. I used to know a man who was colour blind but the blindness gave him a gift too he was able to pick out fine detail in things much better than people with colour vision. He was an engineer. For those questioning why they did not know about Edie's color blindness sooner factually, colorblindness is difficult to diagnose in teens and adults. Toddlers and children take the world at face value and our brains adapt or compensate quickly. Color perception is also a bit relative. What some may see as deep blue others may guess as a hue of purple. In Edie's case I imagine it would have been hard to pick up on her color blindness as she sees some vivid colors quite well (i.e. she knew the shirt she was wearing was pink but the light pink sweater looked duller or grey). Just saying, some diagnosis take a bit of time. Judgement doesn't help. At least it was taken seriously now they know and really kind of Dad to get her those cool glasses.

Colorblindness can be difficult to diagnose in teens and adults. Toddlers and children take the world at face value and our brains adapt or compensate quickly. Color perception is also a bit relative. Some diagnosis take time such as a child who has autism or dyslexia or a hearing problem. It's how people respond and help when they do find out.
