That’s really sad that someone, anyone would stop you from renting or buying a home based on your relationship! How you live your life is none of their business with the exception of determining your ability to pay the bills and care for the home. The rest of your life is your own and not anyone’s business! I love your new home! It has a lot of character, which is my favorite type of home!

It is so stupid. A lot of people won’t let certain “kinds” of people buy their homes. My husband and i are “alternative” looking. We both have a lot of large creepy imagery tattoos and i have crazy green hair and we have been turned down for not “fitting” in the neighborhood on a house we loved. So unfair and stupid. Our realtor has been running all of our errands for this current offer bc I don’t want anyone to see us and turn us down again😅😭I literally wore a hair wrap to come see this house so the sellers realtor wouldn’t pass any judgment on me🙃fingers crossed that all of us who are different can find a place to love and live!! Sending good luck to everyone in the same boat!!!

Annabel, I work in the multi family housing industry. I help manage rental properties along the West Coast. What we look for when qualifying an applicant who owns their own business is that they have a personal banking account along with their business account. We cannot accept business accounts to income qualify because you do not take home all of your business funds. We know that business expenses are involved, so only ask for personal checking account statements and to show that you have filed a recent 1040 tax return to supplement the income in your personal bank account. If you are a sole proprietor on your business accounts, I would recommend making a personal account and paying yourself weekly or bi-weekly from your business account. Also, if you feel like you are ever being discriminated against, Fair Housing laws do exist and protect people of all kinds. This is a bit harder when dealing with a private owner, but not impossible. Hope this helps ❤️

Thank you so much for the kitchen share...i love galley kitchens....there are beautiful removable botanical contact papers that would be perfect for the cabinets. I am a winter gal (and fall) as I am the sole caretaker of my 10 acres and spring feels frantic with constant reminders of failures for lack of time and or money. On the flip side, thinking of you while Im on my tractor navigating the chickweed, violets, redbud & dogwoods on my property. I actually rent out 2 cottages here in the piedmont of virginia and prefer people with animals & queer folk especially. I know of several people out here who would be happy to rent to you dogs, age & queerness being of no concern. Cheers

I grew up in central Arizona, where there are two seasons: trying to kill you with allergies and trying to kill you with allergies and heat. Spring straddles those two, and I always hated it. Then I moved to Portland, Oregon, and I learned that spring green is actually a color in nature, and I saw my first crocus, and I learned that there are SO MANY FLOWERS. I’m living in Ireland now, which is very similar to the PNW, and this weekend I got to walk through a forest filled with bluebells. I’m convinced it was enchanted. I have my kids on a mission to find every dandelion head out back and blow it in our garden so I can have all the dandelions for all the recipes. I’m going to be brave and harvest nettle for the first time, since I drink nettle tea every day, and we have a ton of it. We’ve been trying all the edible plants on our property - hawthorn, speedwell, daisies, cowslip, and cuckooflower, so far. I guess this spring for us is about nature’s abundance, now that we’re in a place where it’s safe to forage.

@@shannonbritton5313 That used to be true, but in the 90s and onward, people moved from all over the country and brought their plants with them, so now the allergy situation is nightmarish. It’s worse for people who’ve lived in Arizona their whole lives.

Always great to see you. I shared this video with my partner, we are within the LGBTQ spectrum as well. We are old enough to be your g’parents - so strange to say! Life goes by very quickly, I will tell you it is literally just a few breaths until people say you are old! I suggest you frame any prejudice (or ignorance) you experience as NOT due to your age, funds, type of work or sources or level of income, maturity, life experience, educational levels, industry, or anything else other than, yes, base it upon being 2 women. If you have not done so, I would have documentation of everything as pertains to eduction, jobs, income, and goals ready at all times as a synopsis that is given prior to any meet up. I would “screen” the potential renter or seller ahead of time rather than waiting for acceptance. You will find some people fall through and don’t “feel right” to you well in advance. Don’t waste your time further. Then others may be so so when you screen but the ones to follow up on are the ones you feel easeful with right off the bat by email, phone and PRIOR to a “meet and greet” visit. Narrow it to those folks along with screening for the “right” place. This will then save you a lot of hassle. Once a sense of connection is made PRIOR to meeting, it’s not too likely that you’ll see judgment and bias become a factor, even if it would have without the preliminary steps. I don’t think I’m adding anything to what you’ve thought and done already, I simply want to support you and what you asked of your subs in the comments. Cheers to the beautiful place that you’re enhancing with your own aesthetics and here’s to spring time! 🥂 ~Todd 🦊

Spring for me is walking amidst the flower, especially wildflowers in a meadow or along the roadside. It's sun and wind speaking in the trees. It's calm and energy and excitement. I feel brave and more confident in spring, to talk to others, work on new or ongoing projects. I love to just sit in nature! Lots of chances to reset with nature being beautiful in spring so, it's less stressful than other seasons.

Intuition is a powerful thing. Me and my husband had a moment when we felt stuck in our house hunting. It felt very odd as we never had such issues. Whatever we wanted - we had it. In this case the more we were pushing, the more hard it was. Subconsciously, I felt something wasn't right. We just waited patiently, and after a while everything started to make sense. We just had to wait for the right circumstances, accept the present, live the moment and not our perfect vision... It just clicked eventually. Whatever is happening right now Annie, just let it be. Of course, keep your search, keep yourself active but try not to stress too much. Everything will be fine. I'm sure of it.

I adore this season more than the others, though I do enjoy the Fall as well. I just find I have more energy, feel more inspired, and more myself this time of year. As a lesbian myself, I’ve dealt with the issues of rentals as well. But, you do t want to enter into a home with that kind of energy anyway in my opinion. I’m so in love with your new place. You look at peace where you are. When the time is right for you to move you will know, and the next place will reveal itself at that time. For now, enjoy your life where you are with the people you love. My boyfriend I and were talking for a while about moving to Washington State from Illinois, wanting the freedom of living closer to nature with minimal restrictions, but an opportunity came up in Florida and we took it. We have been here for over 3 years and don’t regret it. We keep an open mind, that another opportunity in a different state might come in the future, but we know for sure we don’t want to move back to Illinois.

I grew up in Texas and because of the heat pretty early on spring really wasn’t very long. I felt most connected with fall as the cool weather came in and the leaves began to change. Not to mention I have a strong connection with that time of the month because that’s when I was born. I’ve always felt more spiritual during fall. However, there is something to be said about appreciating the beauty and wonder of spring and the life that it abounds.

I live in Utah which is a place of extremes. Extreme differences in landscape across the state, seasons, and definitely extreme opposites within the culture. There are many things that I have loved, and others that have been very difficult in my time here, but the seasons changing so distinctly has always been a comforting reminder that all things have their time. It is currently spring and I am also enjoying and taking advantage of the fresh blossoms. I live on a ranch in New Mexico, and the spring brings our windiest season (40-70 mph lately). It admittedly makes me restless and a bit rough around the edges, so it's always a surprise when the wind calms on some days and I finally notice the blooms and the leaves that have held out during it all. Our lilacs bloom for the first time in the spring, too, and the smell has always brought me complete and immediate calm. So spring here is a balance of feeling thrown around in the dust, and then utter silence and the smell of lilacs to make it all better haha

I'm so sorry that you and your girlfriend have faced such hurtful discrimination. Glad you were able to find a place eventually. Your new home looks lovely. I love in Florida and the seasons are always so challenging for me. Winter is absolutely gorgeous and all we want to do is be outside and play. Sometimes it's hard to get into that rest & hibernate mode. Spring is nice, but short lived. I would love to be in a place where the seasons were a little more traditional. In fact, my family has been trying to purchase acreage out of state and it's so difficult right now with the market the way it is. So we continue to say for a similar reason to yours: clearly our work here isn't done.

Dear Annabel Margaret, A beautiful Spring video from you, and a return to nature’s beginnings. I so love your quiescent voice and narration. Beautiful surroundings you have procured here, and yes, there is a calling for you still as you atune to it. I love seeing the dogs and missed them this time. Spring to me ( at least this year , is also tidying up, sorting through things that can be donated or placed into winter storage ….) I had lots of table lamps through the winter and have put several of those away now with the long et daylight, dusting, sorting, tidying, and also continuing to thin my possessions to simplify my surroundings, and the end result is calming and rewarding in its own gentle way. Reconnecting with the Earth and its new growth, lots of walks in solitude and quiet to appreciate the immense beauty of the PNW ( I’m just North of you)… a Canadian sister :) And yes, reception can be strange…. of People to people…. A sincere friend told me, those were not your people… when something struck me the wrong way. Remember dear ones, that your people will find you at the right time. Grace to you both. Stay well and be at peace as you bring so many peace through your art, creativity and gentleness Xoxo

Seasons. Seven days ago it was 95° The next day 81°and windy at 40 mph. We were seeing the start of Spring. Five days ago it was 74° with a bit of rain, and the leaves finally popped out on our weeping white birch. Yesterday it was 33° and it snowed 3 inches. Today muddy, overcast and cool it 45° Yes, yes I live in Colorado. 😏 No other trees have budded yet, just tiny bits of green here and there. Everything is still trying to wake up from winter. We will have about a week of spring-type weather, decent temperatures, maybe a little rain and lots of wind. Then summer will be here and it will be 90 degrees or higher everyday. 😬

Your new place looks so much more suited to you, even though it may not be exactly what you are looking for it is a step in the right direction and that is always something celebrate too 💞🙌 I know the struggle with renting, my partner and I have rented for 10 years now, I am 28 so we have experienced a lot of age bias in that time. Unfortunately I don't have any tips really, it becomes easier to navigate with time like most things do but the fact someone "lords" over you is always frustrating to me. Being more free and doing things your own way would be so much nicer haha. Unrelated but maybe an idea for the other channel, I know it probably seems so simple but a video on how you dry flowers/herbs would be awesome! ^_^ I hope you have many happy adventures instore this year!

I'm from Rhode Island, and can assure you would be more than welcome here, as well as Massachusetts. I'm afraid the further north you travel views, and openness for current culture are varied. The New England coastline is fantastic, I would recommend visiting.

Another well loved video, Annablle, Great job. I enjoy all the seasons, But springtime is in it's own class, Due to all the new growth that comes to life, Plants, bushes, that you see new buds, new growth. getting to plant veggies again in the garden, and watch them grow and produce. Hearing the crickets at night. Walking thru the forests and smelling the scent of the woods!!

It is an absolutely horrible time for housing, no matter what. We looked for so long for a house as previous homeowners (no rental history) and ironically that was displeasing to many people even though we are cis, have children and my partner has a well-paying engineering job. I so encourage you and everyone to save the money for a reasonable down payment and do whatever you need to actually buy and own your own home, even if it's to get a 'starter home' first. We ended up at my family's 300 year old homestead that my Dad was using as a second home and I was iffy at first but it has been an adventure and even a blessing, because last month my father passed away after a long illness and yet here we are surrounded by his things, memories, and generations of heritage - it would be so much harder to miss him and be somewhere else than where I can feel him still all around. I hoped to move this summer and buy again finally, but now we may spend another year in this beautiful, sleepy, slightly crumbling old place- but if so it must be like you said, for a reason, something still needs me here or there is more to learn. Thank you for your beautiful content and I hope spring brings you all that you desire.

The excitement of spring!! It’s still early spring where I am and the small spring flowers are just starting to bloom, needless to say the anticipation is growing! I’m looking forward to a spring and summer full of your beautiful crafting! I’m sorry to hear about how you were treated trying to find a place to live, it shows society truly has a long way to go… Like you said though, it worked out for the best in the present moment and you get to spend a bit more time in the west! Thank you for a beautiful video Annie!

Sorry to hear about the problems you encountered when trying to move back east. I'm afraid I have no advice, but I wanted to answer your question about how spring feels. Ever since I was a teenager (many decades ago) I have struggled with feeling fatigued in the spring. My mother called it "spring fever." This year I've been researching herbal spring tonics and trying to incorporate them into my meals. I also often come down with a bad cold in the early spring! I love the end of winter, but I have to confess it's not the best time of year for me, lol! Looking forward to getting the garden started. Best of luck to you and your girlfriend!

My family is moving as well. I completely agree with you that it just feels right doing all these new things now. Your space is beautiful-almost as much as your content and what you share with us!

As a queer person in a not so queer-friendly/safe space, spring I feel is giving me that firm nudge that I need to do something about it. If I'm able to move it won't be until the summer, but since I've started using that time to prepare for a potential large move (over 700 miles away) things have gotten a little less turbulent. So I've been gathering herbs that I can swap the energies out when I'm up there to ease my settling while I become familiar with the wilds there if the potential becomes reality. Lately here, the call of homeland just seems amiss and yet the very idea of this move tugs at my heartstrings where I have to at least try to see it happen. Either way and whatever may happen, spring's certainly inspired me to look around so I can maybe find the call of home once again.

I'm so sorry that you two have experienced this prejudice! Even as a sis heterosexual female it was difficult to find places to rent while I was unmarried. People can be too judgemental!

First I want to simply say I love your copper. I love watching you work with it, all the pieces are so beautiful. My home buying experience was very similar. I was single when I set out to buy my home and I too hit a lot of hurdles. After all, I was a single girl, how could I afford a house. I backed off for a while and then right when I wasn’t looking … the perfect place opened its doors to me. Twenty one years later I am still single, yes it’s just me and I have painstakingly renovated my little cottage. It is my haven, my sanctuary surrounded with gardens and joy. Annabel, you are a very insightful person, your home will show itself to you when it’s ready and hopefully the person handing over the key will see not two women (or two men or a man and a woman) but rather two people who care about each other, who are committed to each other and who have made a family. Blessings to you dear one🌷🙏💕 happy spring.

This video was so good, it really made me think about stuff which is something I love about your videos! About the queer thing, I'm super sorry, I know how that kind of thing feels. I'm a young queer person and I still live with my parents, but that's definitely something I worry about for when I'm older. I just hope that things will improve. You're definitely right though that in this part of the country queer relationships are more accepted.

I am so sorry you had to go through, honestly, the BS from others while trying to find a place. In North Carolina, where I am, Spring can take its time. Just as I believe things are on the up, weather wise, we will have another cold snap. I can't quite get into spring until we hit the warmer temps and I can really get into my garden. Which is when everything really comes alive for me.

It is mid-autumn right now in my part of the world, inching towards. My favourite time of the year always used to be around Imbolg, early august. I loved that stirring feeling and seeing the wildflowers come out. Right now, with the weather cooling down, the Qld Silver Wattle in my front yard is soon to erupt into spectacular yellow flower. The buds on the grey-green leaves are very slowly but surely growing. May is my birthday month. My dad and I both notice that the May sky is a very particular shade of blue. I'm hoping to get my disabled bum out into a national park on my birthday (it's tradition). The days are definitely cooling down, from our hot sticky humid mosquito-ridden subtropical summer. I will soon be bitching about the cold though, because the inside of our house is basically whatever you don't want it to be - cold in winter and hot in summer. I started really writing again on the 1st of May last year, so it's nice to see that I've come full circle again in that way. I always find your videos really calming. Thank you Annie. I'm sorry you ran into some queerphobic misfortune on your house-hunt, but glad you've found a cosy nest for now.
