I was really surprised by how well Bellew boxed off the back foot against Usyk for the first 6 rounds. I think you're right about him being underrated as a boxer.

Cheers Dave. Great video. Just please make sure you are super fit for 12 rounds when you comeback in a well deserved big fight. Do yourself proud. Hate seeing you take punishment and waiting for you to explode when you aren't fit. Give yourself the best advantage. Twighlight years now so make the most of it pal. From the bottom of my heart there mate. 100% genuinely want to see you do well.

I would imagine Haye experienced exactly the same element of surprise in their first fight. Biggest mistake Bellew made was spending most of his career at light heavy. Would likely have a better legacy if he had moved up much earlier.

I always liked Bellew, even as an amateur when he was a fat lad, he always was a decent boxer and could punch. He evolved into a decent pro like you say, not the greatest in any one aspect but very sound fundamentals and done everything well. I agree with the punditry as well, his bias for matchroom and in particular Anthony Joshua is obvious but like you say connections and allegiences play a big part. You get the feeling that he is loyal and would always back his own, the sort of fella you could rely on when the shit hits the fan and your back is against the wall. Another great video Dave, keep em coming.

You can tell he’s rotunda trained in that boxing gym they don’t let you spar for ages they spend time working on footwork an the basics of boxing great gym to learn how to box for an amateur if it’s got a fault though you can be sort of overlooked in there because there’s that many good fighters you won’t get the special treatment 😁
@aeonparker-white93063 ай бұрын
@@Carl-nb7lq just how it should be, as a kid I would see lads come into the gym thinking they were tough, when they were allowed to spar most never came back again, that first stiff jab on the bugle usually seperates the the real fighters from the fakers.
@Carl-nb7lq3 ай бұрын
@@aeonparker-white9306 that’s it they knew though that if you put a young lad who’s never boxed before into a ring against someone who can box all it’s going to do is put that kid off when he could be a good fighter once he learns some trainers an gyms at that time would literally throw someone in with a lad who’s had multiple fights to someone who’s never hit a bag I won’t name the gym but I went to one when I was a kid an there was plenty of dads turning up at the gym angry because there son had been done in by someone who they shouldn’t be in with they had that old school mentality of if you can fight you can fight so it was sink or swim in that gym they usher to joke that they out barbed wire on the gloves in there 😂

@@Carl-nb7lq Only the bullies would get thrown in, they would be begging to spar thinking they would beat anyone in the gym and wanted to learn the hard way. Those that came back after being humbled, learned from it and turned out to be good boxers.
