I was introduced to Dave at "The Stick of Joseph" and "Cwic". I've been very touched by his ideas. Many of them touch my heart! I do love teachings of Heavenly Mother so much. I'm a convert of nearly 20 yrs but not of diving into the scriptures deeply. Thanks so much for this episode! Just joined the channel!

One of those moments that jumps out and causes you to catch your breath happened to me when I read 2 Ne 9:41. We always hear and read, " Straight is the gate and narrow is the way . . ." This statement always made me feel like I was already defeated. I was sure I was wobbling all over the place and how was I ever going to know if I was on the straight and narrow path and how could I stay on it. Of course, I reminded myself of the iron rod, but was that all? Then I read this passage, "Behold the way for man is narrow (feeling a little disheartened for a moment but then it added), but it lieth in a straight course before him." It really says the same thing but this wording gave me hope. Point my nose, my eyes, my heart and mind towards Christ and keep moving and I'll make it.

Speaking of the Valley of Lemuel, in 1 Nephi 15-16, Nephi is explaining the vision to his brothers, and in 16 he exhorts them to repent and change their ways, and then when they do, That's when Nephi describes them getting married, whilst his father "dwelt in a tent in the Valley which he called Lemuel", and after the marriages, it says that Lehi had fulfilled all the commandments of the Lord. I'm not saying this is explicitly related to temple marriages, but I do find it fascinating that right after Nephi explaining a temple vision, and then exhorting his brothers to righteousness, and then all of them getting married, while dwelling in one of the "3 part spaces" and then and only then does Lehi fulfill all the commandments of the Lord. Just a thought.

Dave. Could Neohi had been speaking in code when he said “and my father dwelt in a tent”…. Could he have really meant “ my father went to the tabernacle” “temple”
@DJButlerRockBand10 ай бұрын
Super interesting that Lehi's tent gets mentioned 7 times. That's a temple number. It's the number of beatitude blessings and the number of branches on the tree of life. Super interesting.

I'm at the end where Dave is taking about the celestial room and before he talked about the chandelier in that room, where there is always a floral plant below that. I thought how the massive chandelier to me seems like a tree/the mother? Is that dumb? I'm kinda new to these deeper discussions.

Thank you both so very much for this video! Obviously, I'm excited about Dave's third book becoming available, and maybe one of my questions will be answered there. In the meantime, Dave, you mentioned "humiliation" in only one sequence of talking about the temple flow, and I've been struggling to find what you meant by that. Even if it is explained in the third book, I'd love to get an explanation from you here. My other question is what you'd suggest as a good way to get started studying Hebrew for scripture study purposes. I currently have virtually zero knowledge of Hebrew. Is there a Web site or any kind of self-study or online program you'd recommend? (I do have some degree of familiarity with some modern languages, but not with Hebrew.)

Do we know the meaning of the names Lamar and Lemuel the way we know Shazar and Nephi?

I asked Dave and he said: "Lemuel is a name you can find in any naming dictionary. It means something like 'belonging to God.' I think that Laman as an Arabic name comes from the root to 'shine.'"

For me I try and assume that ALL ideas that bare good fruit comes from the Holy Ghost. My question is, why do you feel the need to be first to an idea even a head of the Holy Ghost a member of the Godhead?
@kentskoien758310 ай бұрын
I'll start off with 2 Peter 1: 20-21 : Knowing this first,that no prophesy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophesy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. So the scriptures then, given by God through the Holy Ghost are understood best by inspiration of the Holy Ghost. Which gift is conferred on the baptized after their baptism: 1 Tim 4:14 and 2 Tim 1:6. This ordinance is given in the true Church of Jesus Christ by someone holding the priesthood authority to do so.

I've come to the conclusion that the eight years included the time spent in Bountiful: eight years from leaving Jerusalem until they actually launch the ship. I get that from Godfrey J. Ellis' "Nephi's Eight Years in the 'Wilderness'" in the _Interpreter_ journal. *However,* since Nephi in writing his account at the time and for the purpose he did, we can allow him to make some modifications to the strict facts to make it more meaningful in a symbolic way. This isn't to endorse stupid ideas like saying he murdered the poor innocent Laban, but keeping in mind the purpose of his Small Plates account does give some wiggle room. It's kind of like the organization of the Church on April 6 (some people take that as meaning Jesus' birthday had to have been April 6), or for that matter the celebration of Christmas in December. Nephi is giving this people their origin story, their founding mythology. I had learned to call it a reverse exodus and Passover story, but to see it as a Temple journey is another layer of meaning that reinforces Nephi's report of what he's doing and why - and another twist of the nose of the stupid idea that Joseph Smith just made it all up. With that in mind, is there relevance to Nephi's specifying the directions they traveled? Of course those directions help us find the route and locations on our maps, but it seems they may have an additional meaning somehow. I love how Dave is alluding to Iain McGilchrist's findings about the brain hemispheres. _The Master and His Emissary_ helped revive my faith in God. I'm so glad I went to that authors' meeting in 2023! That's where I met Dave, and that's how I recognized him when I saw him on these videos this year, and it's been a beautiful reinforcement of my own rediscovery of the Book of Mormon.
