"Jerrod tries too hard to be edgy.. ...' way back in the 90s the same thing happened to Ellen. I loved her tv show, and when she came out, the jokes on her show switched to gay punchlines and it wasn't funny. I liked Jerrod's material in his specials before this, so I'm not sure whats happening now

I loved his sitcom. But, come to think of it, it was funny because Loretta Divine and David Allen Grier were playing his parents, and they were hilarious. Also Lil Rel and Tiffany Haddish were a divorced couple and they would go back and forth at each other. But Carmichael was the strait laced one on the show, even though he was supposed the star comedian. I don’t know of any other comedian that got his own show who left it to the rest of the cast to be funny on his show.

I don't believe Jarrod should've apologized because he was not "wrong." Dave has been on some funny shit for about 5 years. He's more or less a paid speaker and not much of a comedian. Just because he provides an echo chamber that I agree with doesn't make the counterargument less valid. If you Good Dave's name, those anti-trans jokes are near the top of the page. It's ironic that Dave is hurt by criticism.

I'm another person who feels he came out of nowhere. I didn't hear of dude until he had a show. I'm not someone who limits himself to just the entertainment and information that mostly appeals to Black people either and yet I still haven't heard of him until he had his own show.

Am I the only person who thinks that Jarrod was just pandering.. he was pandering when he was on the "other talk show".. he was pandering when he was on the "breakfast club".. he was pandering when he called out Dave Chappelle and he's pandering when he apologized.. so everything he was doing was just pandering.. and therefore I take nothing that he says seriously.. not do I care to watch anything that he is in.. for that same reason..

Yall should go back to having a panel of comedians discuss these topics, that format was really good. Try reaching out to the new, up and coming comedians with a buzz. They would be grateful to be on this platform and can use the exposure, and you wont have to worry about paying them alot of money like you would a more veteran comedian.

To be honest. I don’t think it’s a matter of perspective but persistence. Whatever people may save about Chappelle, he stands by what he says and his right to say it. He has dealt with many critics including Carmichael but he never backed down. Carmichael on the other hand literally did a 180 the moment he got heat, and on top of that sought to praise Chappelle going against his criticism. Also if podcast comedians are not real comedians, what does that make a comedian with a documentary series on a legacy media platform? I am a fan of Carmichael and his work and agree with some of his points, I just think he needs to not balk the moment he faces backlash and actually stand by his perspective.

Initially, the story was presented as him making jokes about raceplay or being into raceplay. He corrected that false narrative. Now we are left with ppl complaining about a black man making a joke about slavery.... what??black folks can't joke about slavery??... I don't get it. A black comedian making an unfunny joke about slavery isn't newsworthy.

Nevermind that the big difference between the two is that Chapelle is punching down in his jokes and that Carmichael is not? That doesn't make sense. The equivalence would be in Chapelle making those jokes AS a trans man. These women here stated that the trans community overwhelmingly stood by Chapelle's trans jokes; SOME does not equate overwhelmingly. Many more trans/ Queer people didn't take kindly to them. That's understandable. Trans/ Queer people, like many communities, are not a monolith. Again, the key here is that Chapelle is a black man making those jokes as a heterosexual man from/ to a community that infamously still doesn't create a safe space for Queer black folks. BIG difference. I'm not black, but I'm brown and my own community still has this kind of issue. It's not judgement, it's facts. I've heard MANY black LGBTQ brothers and sisters say this over and over. Matter of fact, Funky Dineva spoke about this specifically on his own channel BEAUTIFULLY just last week. Think what people will about Carmichael, A LOT of his special is people projecting their own sex shame onto him. It is self-deprecating about his own life. Not other people's lives that he has nothing to do with, that's where he and Chapelle differ. When you aren't punching down is when this kind of social commentary comedy then becomes a "change the channel if the topic isn't for you" situation. Carmichael isn't for everyone, and that's fine. Chapelle's comedy is lazy and is nothing but punching down.

Chappell addressed this punch down claim. It's crap. And we all know it's crap that's why there's never been a direct response to address of it, just continuing to make the accusation. The trans community came after Dave Chappell, not the other way around. You're not a sacred cow whose exempt from being joked about like everyone else.

Heterosexual Black men are the most endangered demographic in the US; we can never be “punching down” at any group and to think so is crazy AF. And that would make sense considering the rest of that nonsensical bullshit you typed out 😂

EXACTLY! Dave hasn't done true comedy since the late 2000s. Now, he's just venting and providing eco chambers for bigots. Dave doesn't hold his fans to the high standards he used to. I don't agree with transsexuality but who am I to bar them from existence? Jarrod's jokes are not funny to me, but he shouldn't apologize for his personal feelings, especially since they hold weight. If you Google search Dave's name, it's exactly like Jarrod said. Dave is unwittingly ruining his legacy in favor of a crowd that will turn him at the first disagreement.

Dave wasn't telling a joke about the trans community. He was calling about the HYPOCRISY within the trans community; his friend was bullied and isolated by said community into s3lf-d3l3ti0n. Calling someone/ something out is NOT the same as joking about it. HUGE difference. Jerrod is wrong for this. First, he attacked Bill Cosby on his short-lived TV show. Now he's back on Dave Chapelle... We've seen this song and dance before.

I looove the JC show. Mainly becuz of David Alan Grier and Loretta Divine playing his parents on the show. They were an AMAZING combination. To lesser effect I liked Lil Rey and Tiffany Haddish as well.(this was waaay before all the controversy). I was never sold on Carmichael's role but his name was on the show so I get it. As time went on I'd catch bit and pieces of JCs material. And this isn't the first time he's "try" to make slavery funny. Bottom line is he's made his choice a long time ago who he's allies with, and it ain't the Black community! And I don't say that lightly. Dave on the other hand has been an ambassador to dam near everyone without pandering. Whether you like comedic style or not, gotta respect him. Idk if the lgbt community even likes JC, but obviously they're who he's hitched his wagon to. Aye brah do you.
