@basedbattledroid35075 жыл бұрын
This movie confuses me in so many ways, I don't know if scenes are supposed to be funny or sad, the comedy itself is a mix of forgettable fart jokes and some of the most excellent roasts and one-liners in cinematic history, visual gags are a mix of both tried & true gags yet also experimental body horror out of the mind of David Cronenberg, it flips from innocent to gritty so many times, I can't even remember if it's a kid's movie or R-rated. Movie's got a larger internal struggle going on than the main character.

Interesting fact: I read that the white guy that Dave Chappelle makes fun of is supposed to resemble the "original" Nutty Professor from the 1963 movie starring Jerry Lewis as "Julius Kelp" kinda like a homage to that movie :)

this scene always hit me so deeply because in highschool I was over 300 pounds and people made me the butt of laughs every day, so I knew exactly the feelings he was feeling at that time. Lonely, ugly, unwanted from society, a mutant, uncomfortable, thrust into the twisted lime light... but no one stops it because "hey, calm down, it's a joke, don't take it so seriously!" Until the jokes become anorexia, bulimia, and then suicide.

Most people dont realize how groundbreaking this scene was on multiple levels. It puts in to question in a satiricatal way,what we value as humor in society,and the physcology of the individual who might feel obligated to deliver humor in a one dimensional type of way. If you ever watch a stand up special done by Dave Chapelle you will see just how layered he is as a comedian and how in this role he was actuallly RIDICULING mainstream Humor and comedy in a subliminal way lol.
@TheRagev39 жыл бұрын
I am glad someone here understands the truth about this scene
@NefariousDreary9 жыл бұрын
I agree. the way he came out and said "women be shopping" and Eddie saying "that's true, women do shop" was really smart at showing how stupid that kind of comedy can be.
@shilisabranch91009 жыл бұрын
Vinny Raptor Yes exactly,the thing is Dave Showed he could EASILY do simple comedy in this scene but he chooses not to in order to deal with more LAYERED humor that resonates on a deeper level. He was actually making fun of the "Def Comedy Jam" era of comedy in the 90s which those comedians were known for roasting and insulting those in the audience in a harsh way according to appearance because they really werent that great a putting together material that could make you THINK and laugh at the same time.
