Norm was a savage. Jim Breuer told a story of Rosie O’Donnell hosting SNL back in the day. Everyone was kissing her ass the whole time. Norm said “everyone’s running around giving Rosie O’Donnell flowers….I didn’t even know you could eat flowers.” Lmfao. Guy was awesome.

When Bowie, Prince , and Lemmy from Motörhead passed away in a 3 month period, I took it hard. When DMX passed away from that MF 19shot, I was absolutely devastated. When NORM passed so surprisingly, I pretty much lost my mind. I am such a fan, since his 1st weekend update when I was a kid to being obsessed with everything he did as I grew up, to discussing with my Father what a genius he is during the ONE time in decades I was invited to have dinner with my parents(I'm the black sheep, who would've thunk it ...yup u guessed it, Frank Stallone), NORM's passing was DEVASTATING. I cried a lot and it is NOT because I am a Lady. It is because some battle-axes have to drop it at times. Much love to all who love NORM ❣️

Comedians usually know each other's bits, they can see where it's going. But when you see other comedians and entertainers with Norm, they're simultaneously excited and nervous because they really have no idea what he's going to say. When he's setting something up, even other comedians really don't know where he's going with it. But you can see that they're waiting for the punch line. I think that's why he was a comedian's comedian. He was constantly surprising and refreshing even to other pro comics.

Norm was 1 in 100 billion - he never kowtowed and always focused on the primary job of a comedian: being funny - often in obtuse, absurd or unexpected ways - and always with an impish grin and a good heart. I didn't realise how much the world needed a voice like his until he was gone, and his voice will be sorely missed. I used to stay up late as a young girl and sneak watch SNL to watch Norm do the weekend update. My Dad would be laughing..so I KNEW our guy was on. I was standing around the corner to the den, quietly trying not to laugh and get in trouble. He went so hard and never gave a fuck.. whattaMan.... And turns out, my Father knew I was watching.and most definitely approved. Several years ago he told me that MacDonald and Chapelle are the two funniest and most clever people in the world. The loved each other. The way men who truly strive within a craft, suffer for that craft and give everything to that craft love each other. Little had to be said between them for the particularities or the personal side of the cost and sacrifice of fame, because they both already know so much about the other through mutual admiration of the craft that they’ve both given their lives too. In the culture war we now live in, these two men were in a foxhole. And that bond can’t be fully understood by anyone else. Norm took that to the next world and Dave, in his brilliance and honesty describes it. We should admire it for cultural relevance it deserves.

I've read enough of the comments to see the love so many people felt toward Norm and another trend I noticed was how many times it involved loss or grief or depression, even Dave related the story of his father having passed away and how Norm kind of served as a comedic balm to help him heal a little. Myself, I'm getting old (70) and sometimes I think about death more than I should and that's what attracted me to Norms comedy, he talked about death and dying and disease and a lot of other depressing, morbid things but he spoke about them from a completely different perspective than I'd ever heard before, an almost alien perspective and one that kind of pulled the curtain aside for me and let me get a glimpse of the absurdity that lies at the root of existence and the absolute necessity our own participation in it. Maybe I could have kept this shorter if I'd started out by saying that Norm was and Dave is, along with a few others, the Shamans of the modern world and perhaps the last Shamans the world will ever know and when they're gone who will we go to for healing? RIP Norm.

I was roasted by Norm behind my back and it was one of the funniest things I’ve ever been a part of. Kevin Nealon & I had a really good interaction after his show at Wiseguys in SLC. A little while later Norm was in town and at the photos in the lobby part I said 😃 “Kevin Nealon follows me on Twitter now, will you?” And Norm goes “Oh sure. I can do that.” 😃 “Really?! Awesome! Remember it’s IamSkippy” He said “I’ll remember. Take care.” I left SO HAPPY. One of the comedians who was still around after I left said *“When you left someone asked him if he really was going to and Norm goes. ‘You all know that’s never going to happen but I like that it made him happy. I loved Norm. One of my favorite things, if I was feeling down I'd fire up KZbin and watch the seemingly countless hours of Nowm doing standup or appearing on his friend's talk shows, and until they pulled them, I'd watch episodes of Norm MacDonald Live. He was so fucking funny. I remember it really pissed me off towards the end when suddenly people were trying to cancel him and take him to task for defending his friends Louis CK and Rosanne. That time he went on the View he looked so beaten up.Even his old SNL pal Jimmy Fallon cancelled his appearance. And then when he was gone these same people who criticized him were all talking about him like they always loved him.

Wow. Truly awesome. Screwed is my first goto if I need to laugh after a shit day. Cracks me up every time I watch it. Norm and Dave are alchemists of comedy. Norm's greatest punchline was his death. Just like his jokes, when he dropped the punchline no matter how uncomfortable it was, we were forced to look back at every detail in order to fully see the genus and depth of Norm McDonald. "The light was on". Chappelle is now without a doubt the funniest man alive. Once again speaking truth from the heart no matter how uncomfortable it is and forcing us to revisit and see the depth and genus that is Dave Chappelle. He may not always be right but I can't remember a time he was wrong.

I never understood some of norms comedy until I got older. He was so underrated. His conan appearances we great.

I was at the San Diego Zoo around December 28 or 29th 1999, standing at the lion exhibit and look to my right, and there's Norm standing right next to me(towering over me actually) with his son. he noticed me recognize him with his hat pulled down, and i smiled to let him know i knew... but we didn't say anything, and he went along with his son. i have him on video giving some older people directions. he didn't want to he bothered while he was spending a nice day at the zoo with his son, so i never said a word to him...
