On this day in 1966 {July 16th} Dick Clark conducted a telephone interview with Dave Clark of the Dave Clark Five on his ABC-TV network Saturday-afternoon program 'American Bandstand'. At the time the quintet's "Please Tell Me Why" was in it's second of two weeks at #28 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart, that was also it's peak position on the chart and it spent 7 weeks on the Top 100... Between 1964 and 1967 the Tottenham, England quintet had twenty-four records on the Hot Top 100 chart; eight* made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, a covered version of Bobby Day's "Over and Over" for 1 week on December 19th, 1965... Sadly, three members of the DC5 have passed away; Denis Payton {1943 - 2006}, Mike Smith {1943 - 2008}, and Rick Huxley {1940 - 2013}... May they R.I.P. * They just missed have a ninth Top 10 record when "Do You Love Me" peaked at #11 in 1964...
