I was scared of watching this, as I've kinda avoided Dave and his performances since his stroke, but I have to say... he sounds phenomenal! You can't tell he ever had any problems. It's truly inspiring. Dave, the Kinks, and their music keep bringing me joy and inspiring hope in new and different ways. Thank you Dave.

I love any version he makes, more power to him that he did this after a stroke, i don't know if i could ever have that kind of power to recover this much. Seems inspiring to me and yes him and his bros music has kept me going and inspired me for many years, i play today thanks to these two beautiful souls!!!

This version seems even more powerful, with the perspective of an older man reflecting on his life. I always thought that it was amazing for young Dave to have created this in 1970, it was beyond his age at the time. His other contribution on the album was Rats, which was more in the vein of the rocker you expected from Dave. I love this version!

“My mind is proud but I aches with rage, and if I live too long I’m afraid I’ll die.” Those words resonated with me the first time I ever heard this song at age 18 in 1986. Now that I’m 51... oddly enough, I’m not afraid I’ll die. The song still resonates but instead of fading, the resonance has actually intensified over the years, now it proudly echoes with aching rage.

Dave may not have been as prolific as his brother, but nearly every song he wrote that appeared on a Kinks album is incredible including this one.

Honestly I started watching this and thought "Oh Dear!" The stroke and the years haven't been generous. Then I don't know if it was the soul of the song and/or the fact it was Dave singing, it just hit home. Given the nature of the song you could never say lovely but I can say beautiful.

We are two but as one DAVE and Ray amazing the voices it's an edge no one else has, its sort of heavenly so soft sound of the end of the some words they sing both have it the same. It's way their soft voices London accent togther with there emotion in the words ending
