So excited to hear about the new music! I can’t deny I find hearing about their antics quite entertaining, I’m glad they don’t *really* hate each other though

Ray favours the “Dave-is” pronunciation of their surname, whereas Dave favours the “Dave-eeze” pronunciation. They can’t even agree on the pronunciation of their family name lol

one of the most under rated under discussed bands of the 60's .. that actually out lasted most of the bands of their era... I remember my introduction to them was their 1984 album Word of Mount.. I was floored.. it was I believe one of their last studio albums.

The Kinks are probably my favorite band, rivaled only by The Fall, and I’ve given a lot of thought to Ray and Dave’s ongoing antics. I suspect that a lot of it comes down to Ray being an extremely sensitive “artist type,” not knowing how to handle criticism or conflict, and BOTH of them bearing the old “curse of the rock star”- that is, never having had to really grown up. Just speculation, obviously.

There really isn’t any market for the older bands putting out music anymore. Nobody will market it. The Who put out a new album a couple of years ago and nobody cared. Both Townsand and Daltry said they shouldn’t have bothered. All the new market wants is old songs for placement in movies and TV and Ads.
@MickBokulich-gg1ro6 ай бұрын
Ray isn’t all about the market. There are many of us that would love to hear new kinks music and Ray’s all about giving the people what they want

Ray always has songs in the pipeline. Making songs is to him like breathing; he can’t live without it. And despite the fact that yes, they fight, Ray and Dave have always played and worked on music together and always will do. It does not mean they will launch an album and a tour, because that’s “business” and that’s where things get complicated.

what is the dispute over 'you really got me'?
@MusicMongoose Жыл бұрын
I believe it was to do with how the distinctive guitar sound of the riff was achieved. Ray believed it was by placing a makeshift cone over the amplifier or speaker and Dave is convinced Ray was never in the room when it was recorded!

It’s all about the money. All songs were credited to Ray as the writer. Dave felt he should have been given equal writing credit, since Dave’s guitar creations were important to many of the songs. So, Dave feels he did not get the money he deserves.

Only a feature length Movie could explain their feud, and uprising in the world of 20th century music. No other Band, brotherhood, has ever been so well documented in their historic moments. They got banned from the US! How bad do you have to be to get banned from the US? No other band has gone so far. I think there needs to be a Movie about the Kinks. Or perhaps, a series of episodes to culminate the historical adventures of these talented brothers journey through their professional music odyssey. Who the HELL has the BALLS to make such a film?
