If someone's dating someone who's an ADULT and can't get a car loan on his own, you may want to rethink your dating and relationship and self esteem situations. Just the fact that this guy needed a cosigner at all, coupled with the fact that (surprise!!!!!!!!) he's missed payments on the underwater loan, is as big of a red flag as there can be. Finally, what the hell is HE doing about this situation while she tries, MORONICALLY, to take out a personal loan to clean up HIS mess???? Hyundai builds the Elantra, not Honda. There's a big difference in the resale between a Honda and a Hyundai. I mean this might sound petty but a 2021 Honda will retain 85% of it's new value while a Hyundai the same year will retain 70%. New car smell makes people turn into ignorant fools, and I'm no exception. But I learned my lesson and if you are smart you will let others make the mistake and learn from that without having to go through that pain yourself. Unfortunately pain is the best teacher there is. I wish this woman good luck and I hope this sticks with her for the rest of her life.

Thanks for doing that lesson for the rest of us... because it's common sense and knowledge that new cars are not worth it and 99.99% of them lose their value. That's what I did... back in 2015 I paid 12k cash for a 2014 Nissan Altima that only had 9k miles on it. I've only had to replace a wheel bearing assembly so far on it and it's about to hit 90k miles.

While the price of cars and thus the loans for the cars have gone up significantly, the value of the car has not kept pace. My god... who in their right mind buys a car they can't afford and takes out a loan for 32k... The damn things go down in value so bad it's not even funny.

Take the credit hit and tell the bank to come get the car. We did it. They never came after us for 10 grand. 10 years ago. Poof, gone.

Back in 2020 my GF co signed for me because I was in need of a car but, because of the pandemic, we managed to get the car at 0 percent interest which is hard to get today lol. Anyways since then I fixed my credit, I now make good money and I paid the car off 3 years early. I wanted to get it off her credit ASAP and now we live together and are planning to get married so everything worked out great but we were already together for 2 years about time time the pandemic kicked in. So I now own the car free and clear, my credit is in good standning, and we both make over 100k a year each so we doing pretty good. There is always room to do better and we making small steps to do so but, over all we are in a good spot.

I thought it is a turnoff for women that a guy isn't financially stable yet we have callers like this that they cosign / loan their men money which the guys can't afford in the first place. where do I find women like this that would dive head first for me, oh that's right, gotta be a bad boy that is bad enough to pull something like this first

I had a boy friend who said he’d save me money by putting a van in his name. After we broke up he kept it. I feel he stole it from me, a struggling single mom. Lesson learned.

I did this in my 20s for my boyfriend. 100% financed a motorcycle for him. Then we broke up. THEN I traded in the motorcycle for a jet ski. BECAUSE this guy from my job said hey why don't you trade it in for a jet ski and I'll help pay the bill every month, which he did. But gah, what an idiot I was!

A good lesson here - don't buy a new car if you can't afford it. That thing has dropped its value in by something like 35-45% in 2 years. You would save so much money by buying a decent used car that is like 3 years old or something.

Typical Dave. Does not live in the real world. He always thinks the bank can do what he wants. The bank already told her the truth. Why would the bank give out a loan, when they are already not paying the car loan? It makes no sense. He doesn't pay the car, they can easy repo it. And then sell it. And still make more then the 13k.
