The envelopes with the clear part are useful for example in companies and such where they have to mail out a lot of letters to their clients. Instead of addressing each letter by hand or printing or stamping on every envelope, they will print the mailing info on the blank side of the letter and put it in in a way that it will be visible through the clear part. Where I live they do this with letters from the bank, letters about taxes etc, but the "window" is smaller. That big of a clear part seems like overkill but then again - it might have uses.
@sunflower94813 жыл бұрын
Yip they do it in our country too, they fold the letter so the addresses and "addressed" that are on the top of the first page will show through the little window
@volundrfrey8963 жыл бұрын
Yes the smaller window in the corner is for that printing the address. The large window is, as far as I know, for advertisement. It's so that you will see the advert even if you never open the envelope, and to hopefully entice you to open it.

Yes but the address window in most envelopes is significantly smaller than that, around half the width and half the height of the envelope. The windows in Dave's envelopes are massive. You wouldn't print an address this large at the top of a letter.
@RFC-35144 жыл бұрын
@@luke-alex - The address window in most envelopes is just so you can see the *recipient's* name. As mentioned in my original post, these allow you to print the *sender's* name on the contents (instead of the envelope) as well.

The panorama window envelopes were mainly used for advertising. They've been replaced by clear polythene bag style envelope or full colour printed envelopes, now that this type of printing is more affordable. Nowadays they're mostly used for sending cash through the post.
@luke-alex4 жыл бұрын
@@RFC-3514 Okay, maybe you're right. But if it's about convenience, you don't actually need the sender's address to be visible in a lot of cases. And having the massive window must affect the integrity of the envelope. So if it's so important that you need the sender to be visible, it is really suitable to use this presumably quite weak envelope? And bear in mind that the sender's address will always be the same, so it's easier to get all the envelopes printed with it (in bulk) than the recipient's. I'm pretty sure this is what most businesses do.

The translucent envelopes are used by electicity/water/gas/etc. suppliers when they send the bills by post. Instead of printing the address on the envelope the print it on one side(and the fees on the other side) of the bill and fold it so it shows through.
@RFC-35144 жыл бұрын
Not quite. Most large companies use envelopes with a smaller window, just for the recipient's address (which is different on each bill), and where the sender's address is printed on the envelope itself. That saves them time and money, as they order millions of envelopes with their own address pre-printed, and don't need to print it on the contents. These (with larger windows) are for when the _sender's_ address changes a lot too, so they allow seeing the top left of the contents as well. Basically, they are for mail spam companies who send spam from a lot of different clients.
@muls95714 жыл бұрын
But no company uses envelopes with giant windows, the windows are normally as big as the name and address
@RFC-35144 жыл бұрын
@@muls9571 - Read what I wrote above. You are thinking of the more common model, where the window is only big enough to show the _recipient's_ name and address. These are used by mass-mailing companies, where the sender's address changes, so they have bigger windows to show _both_ addresses (they don't print anything on the envelope itself).
