One of the best Jazz songs ever. Beautifully simple but laced with chords strong enough to justify Uber complex arpeggios like 3:20🌴

I never stop loving this even for nearly 40 years. Amazing talent in that room. Sad that Carlos Vega died. Nobody played session drumming like that. What a prodigy. Just watch what he does. Incredible. I've never seen this or heard it before and probably never will in my lifetime with a small kit like that. Jazz time signatures are incredibly difficult as a drummer or any musicians and there are 5 different time signatures in this one.. RIP Carlos V. you certainly deserve it.

I’ve see this video many times as I saw many other videos of very good drummers. But what strikes me the most about Carlos Vega was his accuracy, he took it to another level, filled with many sounds and notes this track is perfect. His drum kit is tuned … man!!! to perfection. The sounds out of those toms are tight and so enjoyable. I heard this in 1988 when I was handed out a VHS tape for demo and right there I was impressed, I knew I had to play drums. RIP Carlos YOU ARE at the very top in my book.

His playing was awesome. His kit was fat and punchy to perfection. Unlike other jazzers who used single ply high and tight, he used pinstripes and his kit had balls.

I've loved this track since my dad picked up the CD shortly after it was released over 30 years ago. Carlos' drum playing is so tight yet almost effortless. I'm honestly surprised I've never blown up any speakers or amplifiers playing this because I've played it LOUD so many times over the years!

And if you think the CD is good you should hear this on vinyl LP (yes, GRP used to release vinyl back in the day) ;-) and it is miraculous! Just incredible sound and with a tremendous amount of dynamic SLAM. Carlos Vegaand Dave Valentin totally stole the show with this performance!

I have a few GRP albums, but not this one. The album shouldn't sound any better than CD because this was recorded on a Sony PCM3324 that operated at 44.1 or 48 khz/16 bits. Then to cut it to vinyl you have to make the usual cutting compromises like blending the channels below 100 hz, watch the levels, etc. If they'd recorded to analog tape, the ultimate "high-res" format, they could have cut a killer vinyl album version and many years later gone back and released it in a high-res format too.

I know it shouldn't, but it does. Trust me. This has been the case 9 times out of 10 with other labels that recorded exclusively in digital such as: Telarc & Delos. If you lived in South Florida I would be all too happy to prove it to you. Cheers!

Yep, but he has a 2oo2 Heavy Hi Hat bottom as can be seen in one shot. The top is also 2oo2. He did like heavier hihats as he had Signatures later that were listed as heavy high hat. The Ride looks much like a Sound Creation. Possibly a Dry ride I heard about. I think that is what he used here. Blue label 602 crashes.

Man! I bought GRP Live in Session on cassette tape in college back in 1986, and wore this track out until someone had stolen my cassette case along with this tape from my car. Been searching for this version of Oasis for 30+ years, and finally found it tonight… Thank you KZbin! ❤

Carlos Vega's interpretation of this tune here is in the same style that Dave Weckl would popularize in the up-coming years. Yet, Carlos makes it look soooooo easy... wonder why he wasn't as well-known and revered as Weckl. (Dave Weckl fan here, no offense intended).

This is so sad Dave Valentin died 2017z he had a stroke 2011 I think which took his playing. He made decent money but spent it all on youth projects and teaching under Priv youngsters music he had nothing when he suffered couldn’t afford the rent if his apartment! Another stroke and Parkinson’s took him 2017 As well as Carlos!
