I went through that period of the Manchester music scene as I had a lot of friends down there and went down after work on a Friday back up the road on a Sunday night. I knew Tony Wilson pretty well he liked me and the guy's I drank with as we spent a lot of money, drank copious amounts and never caused any trouble. I remember meeting Dave in about 83/84 he was a good guy and his sets as a DJ were always superb. Ian Brown was a guy who knew his own mind and wouldn't compromise with the way he wanted his crowds beat into a frenzy ready for the Roses coming on. There were some tremendous bands that were so underrated at the time like Inspiral Carpets whom I was lucky to see a few times. Tom Hingley was a tremendous singer and frontman for the band and it's a shame they gave up in 2011. There's loads of stuff I could write about being down there in the 80' and 90's but the wife might read this so I've got to keep it clean but it was an amazing time in my life.

Dave's comparison with Ian Brown and a football fan at an away match is genius. Hope you got Dave to knock you up a mix-tape for the drive back up the road😁 I was really excited for this interview and it didn't disappoint. Much appreciated PJD and Dave✌️

An interesting point Dave Haslam makes about DJs replacing bands at the Hacienda because they were cheaper. The first time I went to the Hacienda was early 1984 to see the bands from Kitchenware records. The next time I went, in late 1990, it was a club, rather than a live band venue.
