For many people the world stopped momentarily when they heard Elvis had died...even here in Ireland 🇮🇪....46 years later I remember that moment when I heard on the radio 📻 that Elvis had died. A moment frozen in time

Let this be made clear, Dr. Nick did more than just treat Elvis for legitimate health problems. He was in over his head and while I believe that he tried to help control the pill problem he would turn right around and write more prescriptions for drugs that Elvis was addicted to. Why? For the lifestyle of being around one of the most popular entertainers in the world and the perks that went along with it. Like the rest, if Dr. Nick had honored his oath of medicine and refused to give Elvis any medications that weren't for legitimate health problems he would have been gone. No high pay for his services, no flying on custom jets with a rock and roll star, no personal loans. I'm positive that the Vegas doctor was nothing but a Dr. Feelgood but Dr. Nick had his hand in the same cookie jar. He's not innocent in all this. As for Hebler, Sonny, and Red, I'm sure they tried to help Elvis, but the book was out of anger and needing money, not to give Elvis a challenge. And Billy, you say if Elvis lived a clean life he would have nothing to hide, well almost every human being has a very personal and private part to their life that they dont want exposed to the general public my friend. Sonny and Red enjoyed being part of the party when the times were good, they weren't perfect either. Elvis made his choices and he paid for them in a very sad way, but if you listen to the phone call with Elvis that Red West recorded he still told Red that if he needed anything to let him know, he said Sonny was okay but he was never around, and i don't think he trusted Hebler, but he never threw them under the bus like they did him. Sure, they were fired but any employer can fire employees. I think most all Elvis fans know that the majority of the Memphis Mafia were enablers and just there for what they could get, and God knows that with all of his problems, Elvis gave alot.

@@francisrobbins1499 That's all the more reason not to participate in a book that was nothing more than character assassination. I have said it before and I will say it again. The book should never have been written. It was not done to "help" Elvis, it was pure and simple a revenge book. It "helped" Elvis to an earlier grave, but I'm glad Dave has a clear conscience. Everything he says in this video speaks of "we were done wrong," which is why not many believe the book was written to be "helpful." Elvis also knew the true intent of the book which is why it broke his heart.

There are so many sides to this story that it is impossible to find the entire truth. I dearly loved Elvis from the time his star rose in 56 and still do. It tears at your heart to hear all of this. That being said, Elvis ultimately made his own choices and stood by them. His doctor for one was on a gravy train and over perscribed the drugs. Elvis's manager was on the same gravy train and worked Elvis like a mule. Hollywood was also very desirous of their stars being extremely slender, so therein lies one of the reasons for the amphetamines, it was common knowledge that they were used regularly and not only by Elvis. It was an easy way to keep the weight off. It's also common knowledge that Elvis had insomnia from the time he was young. This compounded the drug issues, so now he's taking sleep aids. It became a vicious circle and out of control. Elvis truly believed since these were prescribed by his doc that they were ok. He also felt he needed them to keep up with his performance demands. All of this being said, these men should never have wrote the book. In no way was this going to help Elvis, it did, in fact, break his heart that his so called friends would turn on him. Elvis would've benefited from good professional help from doctors that had his best interest at heart and not money and notoriety. It's a tragic story that should not have happened to a man that was so loved by so many. He did a lot of good during his short life and was generous to a fault and that is why his legacy lives on. RIP MY DEAR ELVIS ❤

That's exactly how I see Elvis's situation. Sure he was responsible for his actions, but having sleeping problems Elvis got into this vicious circle of medications. How these 3 men wants us to believe that they wrote the book to help Elvis. NO. They didn't kill Elvis, just sped up his death.

Elvis biggest fear was his fans finding out he was doing drugs. Elvis was warned about hiring habler he was a friend to Mike Stone so it was no love lost between those 2. Elvis loved Sonny and he really loved Red .The frat house days and games was over the habit had gotten bad on Elvis and his older friends was no longer doing it . The bottom line Elvis hired Sonny and Red and he should have fired them with his reasoning not leaving it for his dad to do it. Dave was going and he did n't have a problem with that but he should had handled Red and Sonny himself. And for R&S they was angry and their anger escalated to bitterness and vengeance , it didn't have nothing to do with intervention that is not how you handle intervention the vengeance was so strong they refuse the same money they was to be payed for the book, wanting it to come out. it was meant as a tit for tat , eye for eye vengeance, he took our livelihood and we'd going to destroy his but they didn't know Elvis would be gone by the time their book surfaced and they had to live with never getting it right with Elvis. they had a long life and Elvis didn't , they publicly tried to pacify themselves as if they was doing right by Elvis. They didn't even buy that scenario because you can see it every time they did interviews and documentaries , Red went back with Elvis years before the money and fame Elvis helped Red into entertainment field , Elvis end was sad and so was Red and Sonny, anger will destroy your life if you don't get rid of it . Red taped a conversation he and Elvis had he was on Elvis mind and heart when Elvis called him and at the end he said to Red if it's anything him or his wife needed just give him a call knowing the book was coming out he still reached out to Red he was. hurt and disappointed in Red and Sonny and they was angry with him but their love was still there but the bond and respect was gone due to the drugs. They no longer did it and it was destroying Elvis . To this day Dave Habler is still pointing fingers and refusing to stand accountable for his own actions because it wasn't intervention it was 3 men trying to destroy the life and livelihood of a man they was very angry with . God say the wages of sin is death so Elvis, Red and Sonny has payed their dues and may God continue to rest their souls in peace.

_Hopefully you won't mind me going on a bit of a rant_ ... Elvis's manager, Tom Parker, considered himself a wizard -- thought of himself as this amazing, ultra-smart manager who knew all about the business. I doubt it, but let's go on that premise for a moment. Even if he didn't care about Elvis, even if he had no heart or empathy whatsoever, the incredible genius and legend (in his own mind), Tom Parker, would have (should have) certainly known the number one rule of business and finance: *protect your gxxdxxn investment!* You don't take your Ferrari or Lamborghini off-road like a four-wheeler, jumping over river beds and slamming through the trees. You don't jam on the gearshift and hold the pedal to the floor until the engine blows up. You don't trash the hell out of your Lamborghini until it's a smoking wreck! Elvis was Parker's Lamborghini. _So why did he literally tour him to death_ ? And of course he knew about the drugs too. If he was as brilliant as he claimed, then he would have made sure that Elvis -- his critical investment, *THE* gravy train of all gravy trains, was VERY well taken care of! _As a manager, you don't want your client, who happens to be the single biggest superstar in the world, addicted to drugs and working himself to death_ ! *Duh!* Even if he didn't possess empathy or the capacity to love (the very definition of a psychopath), Parker would (should) have, in his cold and calculating way, made damn sure that Elvis stayed healthy. Not for Elvis's sake of course, but for Tom Parker's! That should have been, at all times, at all costs, no matter what, been *ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY JOB NUMBER ONE!!* The genius Tom Parker didn't protect his investment. Just the opposite in fact, allowing his goose that lays the golden eggs to perish. _So Tom, you're a genius, eh? Ummm... no_ .

Dave doesn't mention the part where Elvis had called meetings before hand and told them all to "Stay out of my personal business or I can put you on a plane home". Everyone was warned before the termination of Red, Sonny and Dave. Also Dave gloats over his statement of " How can you save someone from themselves "? If someone won't save their own self, by you not being there sure can't help them. By writing a tell all book sure as heck didn't help Elvis and many believe that the book was a big factor in his death. It was told by both Sonny and Red the book was written out of anger for being terminated. Yet it was your own faults for not heeding to the warnings Elvis gave all of the guys in the Memphis Mafia. It certainly didn't help the King by betraying his trust. NOTE: keep in mind all three of the terminated employees began to blame Steve Dunleavy , (the writer of the book) when people started getting mad over some of its contents just as they blamed Elvis for their own termination. Just my opinion about the subject folks. ✌️👑🎤🎸🎼

David said it all when he stated NO ONE could tell Elvis Presley what to do. I’ve also always believed that because they were prescribed by doctors he never saw the danger in them. As been told Elvis way of thinking that if one pill was good three would be better. It’s sad cause Elvis never thought he was damaging his health.

I admire people who tell the truth but I still think it was wrong of them to take it out on Elvis because Vernon didn't do what Elvis told him to. Elvis begged them not to write the book but instead of moving on and looking for other jobs they wanted the money that the book would bring in. I think that the book humiliated Elvis cause he didn't want his fans and other celebrities to know he took pills. EP was a proud man and he probably thought that he would be looked down on. Elvis is so loved that I don't think it would have made a difference to his fans. I mean the whole world knows now and Elvis is as loved now as he ever was. Elvis was such a kind and special person and was blessed with that magnificent voice so it doesn't matter to me. I still love him and listen to his music everyday. His life and rise to fame is fascinating to me. Thank you so much Spa Guy. Great video.

Hebler is perhaps truthful about not doing drugs and not participating in the partying/debauchery, but I believe that the other two who co-wrote their vindictive book, are well established as living the same profligate lifestyle as Elvis. Anyway, all three have strong motivation to embellish or prevaricate, for painfully obvious reasons, and neither Elvis nor Vernon is here to refute their narratives or defend themselves.

That's not the way you help anybody and till this day Dave is airing out EPs dirty laundry and most likely getting paid for it. Whatever the case is you keep that to yourself. No one is perfect and no one is free from skeletons in their closet. Many people took advantage of EP while he was alive and many are still doing it. This man was suffering from depression and didn't know who to trust. Back then there was no help for the most part. The only place he wanted to be was the stage preforming for his fans

1st I think Steve Dunlevy who helped write their book took a lot of liberties with what they said. Red West told elvis in a phone call on Oct.1976 that Elvis didn't need to worry about their book. In a 1977 press conference, Sonny said that he twisted their words. That being said I don't think the only reason that they were let go was because they told Elvis not to do drugs. In Linda Thompson's book she said that Vernon wanted to get rid of Red and Sonny West for a long time but Elvis said he saw their need. I think you have to look at who got more hours after they were gone. Relatives and people close to Elvis and Linda. I think they were trying to cut expenses and Vernon saw an opportunity to get his stepsons the payroll. Sonny and Red both mentioned roughness with the fans. Red said he was only trying to protect Elvis. I think Dave was let go because compared to everyone else he had less seniority.

Actually Red, Sonny and Dave all said that nothing in the book was exaggerated or blown out of proportion and that every word was true. He never specifically said why he fired Red but he kept saying that his Daddy was very ill and he thought they were going to lose them. Red had argued with Vernon a few times even got angry and quit. I think that's why Elvis gave in the Vernon about firing him.

Just a couple of thoughts .. Just my opinion .. but, Elvis, of course, never liked anyone telling him what to do .. So, I think he fired them, just to show them who was The Boss .. Once he established that, he would have hired them right back .. He was famous for firing, and hiring back .. The guys, immediately writing that book, squashed that idea .. Also, Dave says after being fired, they didn't know what to do, because they needed money to support their families .. so, they wrote the book .. Well, they could have done what everyone else does, when they get fired .. They get a new job .. I'm sure Dave worked, before he met Elvis .. And Sonny and Red were big, strong, capable men .. They could have all gotten other jobs .. They could have even become bodyguards for other celebrities, if they wanted to continue in that type of work .. What a great thing to have on your resume .. Former bodyguard to Elvis Presley .. Every celebrity would love to have them on the payroll .. So, I don't understand that excuse .. I really don't think Dave even really wanted to be involved with that book .. I think Red and Sonny kind of pulled him along into it .. Again, just my opinion .. And according to Red, they made very little money off of that book, anyway .. It certainly didn't make them rich .. So, was it worth it ? I don't think so .. And Vernon not following Elvis' instructions, didn't help the situation .. Maybe if they had been given the $5000.00, and hired back later, as he instructed, things would have been different .. All in all, just a big mess .. I thank them for trying to help Elvis, but, that book did no good. It did nothing, to make Elvis change his ways .. He continued doing everything he had always done .. It just caused a lot of hard feelings .. And that's a shame .. Best of luck to Dave .. He seems like a nice guy, that cared about Elvis .. I hope things go well for him ..

I know they will stick to the "narrative" of we tried to help him by getting him into rehab, but we failed, so we wrote a book to "get his attention." If people don't believe the stress of this book didn't help Elvis to an early grave, then I have a bridge to sell you. All of this defense about writing this book is just that, a feeble defense.

I LOVE Elvis, I always have!!! I believe Dave 100%. For people who say Elvis isn’t here to give his account. That’s right, we lost Elvis because of his drug use!! He had many physical problems but drugs absolutely played a part!! Do you need to watch Autopsy the last hours of Elvis with Dr. Michael hunter?? Seriously listen to the call between Elvis and Red West. Red kept talking saying E you needed to get help. This was in October of 1976, Elvis was slurring his words saying he was in the best shape of his life. WHAT?? These guys didn’t get rich off of this book.. They knew Elvis fans accepted ANYTHING Elvis did. They knew they would be hated, they still did it… And even all these years later people’s love for him still clouds their objectivity. I’m sad Elvis was hurt by the book, I really am. That doesn’t change the fact I recognize it should have made Elvis want to prove them wrong and change. Elvis had the transcript months before he died he could have spoke out on it. That in itself is very telling!! He was still here to give his side. Elvis gave the world all he had to give. He trusted prescription drugs were safe and used them to cope. If everyone is being honest many things played their part in Elvis being gone too soon… Colonel, keep the money machine going no matter what. People around him enabling or complete denial. When his shows weren’t his best, fans accepting this instead of reacting with disappointment. The doctors abusing their roles to make an icon happy. Most of all Elvis himself, he was the only one in charge of accepting what his life had become. He was the only one who could try and change and be healthier. I will always feel the tragedy of the world losing a beautiful man, who was so giving and talented!!

Vernon never told Dave, Sonny and Red, the real reason they were let go like that. The "expenses" excuse was not true at all. There's a lot more to this. Same thing with Elvis's death. Elvis was turning his life around, they were planning a major international tour. Larry Geller and Billy Smith and others can confirm all this. Elvis was not that sick and that last picture taken of him driving into Graceland hours before his death as well as the accounts of others around him, of his final hours, confirms that. Very few people know what really happened to Elvis on that August 16th. Vernon himself knew it. Had Dave, Sonny and Red been there that Aug 16th, chances are Elvis would have not departed this world that easily. Vernon and Elvis were convinced by others that Dave, Sonny and Red had to be fired but they were also instructed not to tell them the real reason in order to avoid further trouble or real legal action by the three men. In other words, Vernon first and through him, Elvis himself, were deceived and kind of forced to get rid of those three guys and it has to do with what really happened later on that Aug 16th in Graceland. Some people learned the truth including Vernon himself but they couldn't do much about it though two people did try just to realize they shouldn't go down that route, for their own sake. This is all that can be shared here (and perhaps not even that). I wish I could share everything I know along with the documents and files that proves it. There's a lot more to what really happened to Elvis Presley that day. Why am I writing this? Well I love Elvis. He was a very unique soul and it's not fair what happened to him. Dave is a good honest man but he doesn't really know whay he was fired like that. That's why He, Red and Sonny were so hurt and felt betrayed. They had done nothing wrong and did love Elvis, but some people wanted them out of the way!

There are fan groups that ban Elvis What Happened from being discussed (as well as Child Bride 🙄 which I believe--most of it) because they all try to white wash his life... I like fans who accept him for who he was. 100%... the ones who make excuses... irritates me to no end. As far as how he was fired... I can see Vernon doing that... but I think the OH wait you were supposed to get 5 grand and come back in a year story from Elvis sounds like a plea for them to possibly stop the book--like hey, I wasn't really trying to screw you over it was a miscommunication so are we good now? kind of thing. Too little too late sort of thing... I don't even think... knowing what I know now... that Elvis What Happened was a bad book. People blame so many people for Elvis death... Elvis killed Elvis. Elvis had a mouth--he could have fired more. He didn't. It was the COl's fault. It was Vernon's fault... it was the MM's fault... IT WAS ELVIS. He put that first pill in his mouth back in the 50s... and from there it went!

I believe Mr Hebler. Anger was obviously part of the book thing but I honestly believe they were as good as any about protecting EP. Not perfect!!!! But no worse.

Thanks Billy another informative video. So glad that your dedication and love for Elvis and the truth to be known especially, for all the new fans. I do believe the guys tried however, their hands were really tied figuratively and Literally! Best regards to your wife as well.

i solidly believe Red, Sonny West and Dave Hebler went out of there way to help Elvis and his drug addiction which eventually got them fired, they tried many times, Its a dam shame Charlie Hodge didn't do the same, you can find several video's on KZbin of Charlie Hodge giving interviews saying all the drugs Elvis was taking were for his health problems, and they were all justified, shame Charlie didn't come clean, well done again Spa Guy for finding these valuable snippets of information

I believe about 95% of the book. The biggest "falsehoods" of the book when it came out was the drug use, but we now know that was 100% true. Odds are, most of the book was true too

Leave Dave alone! Elvis began dying when his mother died. It took 20 years, drugs and life hurts to do it. We all love Elvis and wish things could have been different. Satan came to steal, kill and destroy that is who killed Elvis prematurely, but praise God Elvis was saved by his love for Jesus Christ! Elvis is at peace with his Lord, and family, friends and fan’s should let it all go and be at peace too…. we all miss him, but he would want us to remember him for the loving, generous, talented person he was. ❤️

So reading and listing in this era has done my head in over the book ELVIS what happen . It feels to me they trying to help elvis in this era lol in which elvis wasn't help back then its just wierd to my age . Its to late now to help elvis ❤ . Seems to me they trying to help elvis while he laying in his grave more then what he was alive . As i read and listing to articles and vedios it reminds me of a mess up jig saw puzzle try to put peices together dont t forget i was only a teen back then you dont hear any storys back then wasnt being heard . Poor elvis if he only expressed himself to his fans that he wasnt well "His fans could of help him and suport him just being their to get well but elvis kept his health private . I reckon the fans could of helped elvis ❤hi from Sydney Australia 🇭🇲

It’s not that, it’s just I don’t like people saying negative things about Elvis when he’s not here to say his side. It just makes me sad as he did so many good things and there are some who just want to tell us the bad side of him 😢

Fascinating to here Dave talk about all this stuff Spa Guy ! Dave seems a really cool / stand up guy ... Elvis What Happened has allways been one of my favourite books written about Elvis ( controversial at the time ) .....but as the years went by people realised that most of itvwas infact true ! Doesnt make us love Elvis any less ! Keep these videos coming ... Enjoyable viewing 👍🏻
