I can play drums at an alright level, and I can play songs like this. But, keeping in mind that this guy plays like this for 7+ mins on pretty much every song, at this pace on pretty much every song, for 1,5 hour+ concerts ... it's pretty darn amazing that he can achieve such endurance. I'm knackered after playing one of their songs once.

@@TheDSSlayer when did I say anything about technicalities? I've seen nothing from Gee that makes him objectively better (or worse) then Dave. There's some subjective arguments to be made, which would be personal taste. Gee looks like a child surrounded by his heroes when he plays, happy and joyful. Dave looks totally engrossed in his performance. I prefer the latter to the former.

@semitonedown As far as what triggers and electronic pads are for? A lot of extreme metal drummers trigger their kicks, snares and even toms. The triggers are small and usually attach to the rim. This so they get a consistent sound using two bass drums at high volume and speeds. What Dave is doing is he isn't even using the kick drums but using a pedal that has pad under the beater, the beater angles down and hits the pad. A lot Roland electric kits have used them...
@felipeviana199414 жыл бұрын

@keepthemetalflowing13 жыл бұрын
@semitonedown Trigger regular drums is a matter of attaching a small trigger to (usually -but there are different kinds) the rim then part of it will set just above the head to pick up the vibrations from the head (some sit right on the head). You choose what sound you want from the trigger & you could hit a 10" tom & trigger a piccolo snare drum sound. A lot of that went on in the 90's -I read a lot of Modern Drummer. When you mix sounds, they sounds natural, or just use the triggered sound...

@semitonedown Richard Christy is one of my favorite metal drummers -he doesn't use triggers on his acoustic drums. He will use electronic pads to add sounds & textures to the music, like Sean Reinert, but he doesn't augment his acoustics with triggered sounds. He actually practices & uses DYNAMICS to help himself play better. However, I would understand a kit being triggered in an outdoor or huge venue where live miking would be impractical or impossible -there are rare exceptions in my book...
