Monetizing the layoffs as content is a smart move. You turn something negative into a positive, or, at least, you make something shitty less-shitty. It’s also a symbolic gesture and an important lesson. Content is king. You can’t lose $1MM/month and expect to have a job when the entire company is at risk. You need to turn a profit. You need to see the opportunities and capitalize on them. Back to basics.

I don’t know how much a $12M loss affects their margins, but if Barstool is really doing that badly then this is an interesting strategy to say the least. Seems like kind of a nightmare from a PR/HR standpoint to basically post video proof of what seems to be a somewhat toxic workplace environment. I’m a small business owner and just had to go through this and it’s such a shitty feeling to have to cut peoples hours or pick somebody to go because you just can’t afford it yet the workload hasn’t really changed. As a medical caregiver in Maine, the industry took some huge drops Really fast and the decisions you have to make solely on the business part of it sucks it’s miserable to deal with.

Well can’t you be honest with your employees and explain you’re unable to give the usual hours? If you’re working at a small business you shouldn’t go into the job working as an employee believing it’ll make you financially secure, unless you’re told otherwise and that business is booming which is why being honest with them is important so they are aware. I worked for a media company for 10 years, I was also one of the "good ones" and ones that helped that company make it to the top. I was the author of a project that still makes them money, and still got layed of in a similar situation. So cool of Dave to stay loyal to his old school guys. Now I work for their competition and I am back on the top. I enjoy every day looking back at those assholes strugling while I'm still the top dog. Fuck them!!! This felt so good. 😂
