When Newly married, we lived in a 3 room flat with one window air conditioner. At night we slept on the floor in the kitchen where the air conditioner was. Sold one car to afford moving to Boston so my husband could get his master’s degree at Harvard. I worked while he went to school. We now own a 5400 sq ft house on 3 acres and a 3 bedroom condo on the beach in Florida. We rent the condo out at $20,000 per month (with a 3 month minimum). We were given nothing, worked hard, saved, paid cash for almost everything and now enjoy life.

She seems amazing, don't know her yet enough, but she seems genuine and truly wanting to help people, regardless of any background baggage they had or color they are. I hear a lot of younger people throw shade at the Dave Ramsay show saying he's out of touch and got rich when the economy was good. That may well be true but I see the same people who don't know how to budget, save money, and barely pay off debt they have from student loans and buying cars. We live in Canada where the economy is worse than in America and we are on Baby step #2. This is what I mean to say: I'd rather be in a worse economy with a budget and a plan than be reckless and irresponsible in a good economy. Its about priorities and self-control. I'm 70 years old! I was trained by my Dad from day one to avoid personal debt like the plague and that includes the purchase of a house! Right at the beginning he doesn't want to hear about those who don't have any scars! WOW! There are some of us who were taught from a very early age to avoid debt like the plague! Also how many books have I read on budgeting and finance?? Best guess close to 300 plus that were published way, way before Ramsey. I'm retired military.
