What a gem! Rawlings and Welch are one of the great music duos this country has produced! they're in the canon of the louvins, the everlys, S&G, IGs, etc. I love Rawlings enthusiasm and care! It shows in the music they make. I was blessed to see them recently. They're trading off song for song almost, Welch, Rawlings, and I think this will continue on the new album, "Woodland Studios," out in a few weeks. Best of the best stuff out there! I'm excited to see what the new plant in Denver will bring! Thank you for the interview!

Here is a quick flashback about Woodland Studios … 1987 I was working for Corner Cartage (Corner Music) and it was 8:9pm ish and I was rolling out Brent Rowen’s effects rack that was the size of a deep refrigerator (200-300 lbs) and a Ford Bronco pulls up and a guy says: “Hey let me help you” I had the lift gate on the front door stairs landing, there was no back loading dock. He held the door open and helped me get it on the gate, I said thanks and he walk in the studio … I found out the next day while dropping off more gear it was Charlie Daniels. Thanks Dave and Gillian for keeping the studio spirit alive.

I am so happy to find this video. I love this music so much and am so grateful to be able to buy high quality analog recordings of the albums. Would journey sounds absolutely unbelievable and I can’t wait for Time the Revelator on vinyl! I had the opportunity to see the first show after the hiatus in Vermont and it was just incredible. I am so grateful that Gillian and David are making such wonderful Americana and that they are also obsessed with sound. It’s almost too good to be true…

I absolutely loved this convo. It's so great to hear someone as passionate about analog sound as the music it records say it's ultimately about the joy of the end product. I run a cassette duplication rig in Philly for s merch shop and I totally relate to that thinking that went into keeping the signal chain as pure as possible. Dave is always interesting, his music with Gillian has brought the world a lot of joy. I worked on the down from the mountain tour , unfortunately I cut my own lawn and don’t have 600 bucks to drop on the tape or 900 bucks to drop on overalls from Willie Watson. We dirt people live in a very different corner of the simulation that’s running right now , I’m an iron worker in Los Angeles.Michael I think I saw you at cantors a few years ago. I'm glad you wrote this. It is realistic. I work a dead end job and can't afford to buy a home let alone have a second building with a recording studio or a workshop. Forget investments in manufacturing. I'm glad and fascinated that David does what he does, does it well and passionately. It is very interesting that he comes from a family of engineers at Owens-Corning. All we can do is make the best of what we have and enjoy it. Any recordings I make will be on a cheap DAW from 2004 and no-name condenser microphones. I'll see them next month; I'm sure it will be a wonderful show. Be well and take it easy.

Did a demo with a rock band from South Florida in this room back in August of 1973. It's funny to hear someone refer to Nashville in the 90s as quaint, small town. When we were there, the powers to be were going to tear down the Ryman, believe it or not. Great memories, thanks for the video.

David and Gillian are carrying a great heritage together one of the few things not done by pure economic reasons. The heritage from Lomax with blues, soul, gospel etc. No 3 minutes chartbusters with autotune etc... Thank you Dave!

Wow real to real tapes! But who has one of those machines? I had a great one way back in 1967 but it was long gone sometime in the seventies. I had a great Sony sound on sound, 4 tape at once . A very good machine, but when reel to reel music stopped being sold, we sold our reel to reel recorder.

I'd love to know the back story with the Harrow and the Harvest sleeve; it seems full of Satanic esoteric imagery. What leaps out immediately is Gillian is in the classic Baphomet (Devil) pose and the owl over David's shoulder symbolises god Moloch the recipient of often human sacrifices and worshiped annually by the elite at the Bohemian Grove ceremonies. (Google these if you wish). The Harrow is a sacred deck of tarot cards used for divination. Perhaps Michael would care to play his copies backwards to see if there are subliminal messages; maybe Paul really is dead and Judas Priest don't have a monopoly on encouraging their audience to kill themselves..... ;0)
