Man, Dave doesn't know how spot-on he was with the "demented opera" comment. Matt wrote the song with romantic Russian opera/classical music as inspiration. The song originally even had a harpsichord on it but was taken out for the final mix of the album--though they just re-released a remix of Origin of Symmetry a few months ago with the harpsichord back in it, making it sound even more like a demented opera. As always, great reaction.

Top stuff! I never knew that. I've heard all versions of this song for years and never picked up on that. I guess that's the underlining genius of Matt of MUSE in general. You can enjoy their music throughout your life and still hear new things after many multiple listenings. In my book, that make a legendary band.

Dude's high range was true insanity! Cleared out my sinuses. Cool tune for sure.Talking about high voices, the dude in this band is no slouch with his high register either and some cool drumming and playing to boot. Its the band Novena, with the tune disconnected kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHuoqnlqgbWNY6s

He can still reach the notes, they just don't have anything like the same power unfortunately. Since around The 2nd Law he started going for more higher belts in his chest voice. It has definitely got thicker/deeper over the years.

It was a time, long years ago, when Muse did great music.... before being crappy pop stadium clowns !
@GremlinVibes3 жыл бұрын
I'd argue that they still make great music, they just don't make songs that are within your musical taste.
@bonecrayon3 жыл бұрын
Sure, a couple of their songs could be considered "poppy", however Muse have never been a pop band. Do you consider all bands who play stadiums to be pop bands? Just because you're successful enough to sell out stadiums it doesn't make you a pop band. Muse have been critically acclaimed throughout their career, perhaps it's your taste that has changed. See the following list of achievements: Muse have been nominated twelve times at the BRIT Awards, receiving two awards; both were for "Best Live Act", in 2005 and 2007. The band received six awards at the MTV Europe Music Awards, winning both "Best Alternative Act" (in 2004 & 2006) and "Best UK & Irish Act" (in 2004 & 2007). The album Black Holes and Revelations received numerous nominations, including a Mercury Music Prize, "Best Album" from both the MTV Europe Video Awards and the NME Awards. At the Kerrang! Awards, Muse have been nominated for the "Best British Band" award five times, from 2001 to 2004 and again in 2007, but only winning it in 2001. The NME Awards have recognised Muse by awarding them the "Best Live Band" award in 2005, 2008 and 2009; the "Best British Band" award in 2007, 2010 and 2011 and the "Best New Band" award in 2000. The Q Awards have also recognised Muse as outstanding live performers; the band were nominated for the "Best Live Act" award eight times, winning it three times in 2004, 2006, and 2007, and winning "Best Act in the World Today" in 2009, 2012, and 2016. In 2010, Muse won an MTV VMA for the first time, for Best Special Effects in a Video for "Uprising", with special effects by Humble. In 2011, they received three Grammy Award nominations, of which they won "Best Rock Album" for The Resistance, and in 2013 they received a further two nominations, for "Best Rock Album" for The 2nd Law, and "Best Rock Song" for "Madness". In 2016, they won another Grammy for "Best Rock Album" for Drones. They also received the prestigious Ivor Novello Award for the first time, for International Achievement. Overall, Muse have received 69 awards from 174 nominations

@@bonecrayon Muse were great until Black holes and revelations, since they just became the new Queen, Big show, pompous music, sure the spectacle is impressive, they are technically at point, but artistically it's a disaster....
