Amazing time capsule back to NYC in the 80s -- incredible to see it again! And Dave and Paul in top form as usual! Thx for posting this!

3:30 this suddenly reminded me, a friend of mine reread Dante’s Inferno in middle age, and when I mentioned I had never read it, he gave me his copy... Which I put on my shelf for the last three years. Now I have got it out and I will read it. Well I was not expecting that inspiration from David Letterman. I will report back when I have finished

Good grief...1982...I was 4 years old. This is one of the reasons I love this channel: it allows me to see all this early classic Letterman goodness I've never seen before.

I was 15, going on 16 years old, and did see this when it first aired... I met Paul Schaeffer in a midtown pizzeria back in 1986...(W.48th & 7th ave) He ordered a slice with mushrooms and gave me an autograph that said "YEAH!~Paul Schaeffer" And told me to tune in that night, and that the musical guest was George Clinton... Very nice guy...

Dave was as cutting edge and hip as CI back in '82, and this is proof. Add the song stylings of the young, personable & always happening Mr. Paul Schaefer and it's easy to see why Late Night captured the heart of young America.

This is fantastic. I would love it if Dave and Paul did a travel show.

I rode Dante's Infernal in the late 90s and got my GED when I exited the ride.

I remember when I was a kid in the late 70’s I was in the Spook-a -Rama and it broke down. Lol. We had to walk thru the dark to get out. Coney Island wasn’t Disneyworld but I had the best times and memories there.

Thanks to the Donz for this. Always the best line regarding Dante’s Inferno, “which was better the book or the ride?” And the lady’s reaction at 4:30 is priceless.

Remember in 1984 when Dave prank called a NYC PAY PHONE? No one would answer the ringing telephone except a guy named ANTHONY whom Dave invited up to the studio. Anthony was drinking beer from a straw! Haha! Loved that moment & that improvised guest.

I understand back in 1982 you had to fill 4 or 5 hours of show every week so of course you'd air this long segment you produced but why would you show this now when you don't have to? Least funniest Letterman segment ever. Pre-Chris Elliot days I guess?
