Its pathetic to watch all those senators try and hide behind other peoples children. I think they should just let us worry about our own children, we all know what they mean when they talk about children. They mean their own bottom line, and their own kickbacks.

My parents bought cereal, but the only "sugar" cereal we were ever allowed was Honey Nut Cheerios and it had to be mixed with regular Cheerios 1:1. When I was livery driver, I picked up an executive from Nabisco in NYC to drive back to NJ, and he opened up, telling me that his mission for years was to sell more product and put things in the product that made the customer eat more. And now we have this obesity and diabetes epidemic. He seemed genuinely remorseful.

What comes before the health of our children? Corporate Profits, ad dollars, political bribes- oh I mean contributions .

Agreed. We all need to be able to make informed decisions about what we put in our body. And THIS is why “healthcare as a right” is absurd. We all take different risks and therefore should only fund our own individual healthcare costs that tend to correlate to the risks we chose to take. Labeling is key.

Clerk at the grocery store bagged my grass fed butter, looked stunned, how can butter eat grass? I thought she was kidding. No, I explained, the cows eat grass. She looked puzzled. I told her, the cows eat the grass, they milk the cows, they make the butter from the cream. It was just hard. I'm dead serious.

We should all be eternally grateful. Finally the burden of personal responsibility with regard to diet and exercise will be forever lifted by this new champion of men. For without his revelations and guidance, the evil food manufacturers would continue breaking into our houses at night. Continuously stuffing our faces with Cheetos while we sleep. All while simultaneously forcing us into a sedentary lifestyle through the power of mass hypnosis’.

I remember as a kid, our bread used to get moldy after a couple weeks. Now your bread can sit on the counter for months with 0 mold....wonder why

Funny how having kids makes you realize the need for regulation. This is where a lot of the Libertarian arguments fall apart

Born in 1957 & there was maybe 2 or 3 fat kids in school, we ate more home cooked meals - my friends and I never ate a lot of fast food either.

If you'd seen advertising back then it was all made out to be extremely healthy, normal food that was just like our parents ate, only better. And everyone had sandwiches and sweets multiple times a day along with white potatoes and it was all healthy. Breakfast cereals were the WORST marketing at kids with commercials during cartoons.

And, the tobacco war DID NOT start when you were a kid!! It started in the 60’s, increased in the 70’s, 80’s, etc…

You are NOT the first generation as a kid who ate shitty food! As a kid in the 70’s, Wonder Bread was common. So we’re Ding Dongs, Twinkies, sugar-laden cereals, etc. As an elementary school kid in the 70’s, my school lunch (made by my mother) consisted of a bologna sandwich on Wonder Bread, Hostess cupcakes, a carton of homogenized milk and maybe some sort of fruit cup thing. And, my father was a physician (who smoked, btw.) Luckily, I was never fat because in the 70s I was often outside doing something fun that included running, riding my bike, various sports, etc.

Man, I eat a ton and live in the balkans now. Don't gain weight and spend about 2 hours in the gym. Even splurging out on junk food doesn't leave a dent. I can't even imagine what my health would be like if I lived in the US now.

@jacobtaylor7506 I agree with you people in the states that have never traveled to other countries and live in this box called America are dumb and indoctrinated to believe everything here is the best are fools....fresh homemade food without garbage and don't have fast food in every corner in other countries....a simple Google search would shed light on how our food is literally killing us

Sorry pops. The game has changed to the extreme since the 1970s. For instance, the wheat utlized to make your Twinkie in the 70s was not sprayed with poisonous glyphosphate at peak production just prior to harvest. The tomato you ate in the 70s is not the super GMO tomato of today. Even the breed of commercial chicken has changed so that now the retarded Cornish Cross is now the standard. Food abundance is all time high while nutritional value is at an all time low

Forgive me for even suggesting this but banning cigarettes would help me greatly. I’d hate it for a little while but it’s the only way I’d be able to quit. But it does infringe on others rights. I understand that.

About rat poison labeled as sugar: The comparison works if you say "slow acting, sweet tasting rat poison" labeled as sugar. If the poison made it taste bitter, consumers would have stopped buying it after the first time. We are wired to pig out on sugar, because, evolutionarily speaking, sugar is associated with the growing season, and before modern comfort solved for the scarcity of winter, anyone who survived it would have either been wired for sugar or dependent on someone who was. The only reason this works is because we instinctually know sugar by taste, and also because instinct overrides rational thought with impulse. If we want to control our cravings for sugar by taste, we must teach ourselves that all sweets are not sugar. Cheers!

What's the Libertarian position on encouraging a healthier society by subsidizing gym memberships and food stamps that only buy meat and produce? C' Mon, Dave!!!
