ScragNath - I'm like you, although I came a little late to the party. I'm 54. But the Damned were a *_HUGE_* influence in my life, inspiring me to front my own band, beginning as "DAZZLE" (glam), and then, as grunge began to take over, we morphed into "DARKNESS", with early Black Sabbath influences, yet still retaining the liveliness of the Damned. I do miss those days, to a certain degree.

I remember listening to a DJ called Roger Scott at some time in late '76 (when I was 14). The Grundy furore had happened and no one was playing punk as at that point. Roger Scott was a cool dude though. He played 'London Lady' by the Stranglers, which I though was amazing rock'n'roll. Then he said "If you like that, you'll like this" and played 'California Sun' by the Ramones.. and that was it for me. Not long after I had the Damned's first LP and was on the hunt for the elusive EMI release of 'Anarchy in the UK'

The Doctors of Madness released their first album in March 1976 with the unmistakably punk "B Movie Bedtime," beating the Damned by eight months. Doctor's vocalist Kid Strange was the best man at Dave Vanian's wedding, and the latter briefly played with the Doctors in mid-1978 while the Damned were temporarily disbanded.
