Nope. Art Blakey. Gene Krupa. Buddy Rich. Steve Gadd. Alex Acuna. You must've only ever listened to Dave Weckl. Broaden your horizons

@@administration8961 One of in light of the fact that there is no greatest since no single drummer has it over on all others in every aspect of drumming. No one is a better Vinnie than Vinnie, just as no one is better at being Buddy than Buddy. Who can do what Virgil Donati does better than Virgil? Chris Coleman? And so on down the line. We must give credit where credit is due. Peace...
@BaconIsNotBiceps

@@Smittyschannel Not really, buddy. He is factually "one" of the greatest. Had I said "THE" greatest, then that specificity relegates the statement to subjectivity, but the generality of the statement and the fact that he is technically more proficient than most who have ever lived makes it a factual reality. He's on many of the top drummers of all-time lists to boot. We can factually state that some athletes are bigger, stronger, faster, etc than others. The same applies to music and drumming. Not many can come close to what Dave does. Actual drummers know this fact. I'm a huge Neil Peart fan and even I had to explain to a friend one day why Neil wasn't even close to Weckl in ability. He just wouldn't believe me until I posted the Sabian cymbal ad that Weckl, Peart, Portnoy and Bozzio did together where Neil literally thanked Dave for giving them all a lesson after each had played and Weckl had just finished playing. Bozzio was dumbstruck and told Weckl that it was hard to even focus on the cymbals because of how amazing Dave played. There are levels to every game. Weckl is cream of the crop.

It is so cool, that he evolving constantly. My first ever drum video school was his "Back to basics" and "The next step". And even he was one of the tops he changed his technique so much! And was like "Ok, that was a mistake, now I do it like this". And few years later "Ok, I was wrong again, that's how i do it now". That make so much sence, that all our techniques and methods are fluid and changing over time, and if something is not working anymore - do not be afraid to change it. Thank's Dave!

Dave is one of the greatest drummers to walk this earth!! I had the privilege of meeting him and actually hanging out for 15-20 minutes with him... IMAC Theater Long Island NY After he and Steve Smith had put on a Clinic.. Steve went first Dave Finished and after the show he was standing in the lobby by himself waiting for a ride.. My wife and I walked up and it was just US!! We talked for about 20 min.. just regular conversation! OK I did ask him to sign my tickets which he very graciously did... Just a Super nice guy!! and a Living legend!!

We have to be realistic in that what Dave and Vinnie can do on drums most people who ever lived will never be able to accomplish. We know that over and above practice and learning is inborn ability and genius. It's a sight to behold watching these guys play.

Muchas gracias por todo tu talento, saludos desde CHILE !!!!!!

Nice Dave. Great fundamentals, emphasizing the fulcrum in the right hand between the middle finger and the thumb, Murry Spivak corrected me on that back in the 80s. And it took a really long time to start hearing it main stream, for some reason everybody thought it was first finger and thumb. Excellent warm up ideas, Tanks

This man comes at a close second to Buddy Rich in the "Great drummers of all time" category. My personal opinion but I highly doubt my mind can be changed about that. This man was and still is incredibly inspirational to who I am as a drummer (and I'm 27 and have been drumming since I was 7, so 20 years), and every time I watch him be it live or on KZbin, it's always mind blowing to see what this man does. He and Dennis Chambers were my two favourite drummers when I was growing up.

The simplest rudiments are often the hardest to play well. Some great advice here and anyone who has ever had a drum teacher will have practiced in front of a mirror. It was such a teacher who turned me onto Dave as I already knew Vinnie from Joe’s Garage etc and Steve Gadd from Fifty Ways but Dave had passed me by until I was given a copy of Dave playing with Chick Corea. Needless to say it did not disappoint.

My observation is that it is quite easy to find the balance point with (new) Vic-Firth sticks: Grab the stick where the American flag is printed. On Dave's signature stick, the point is clearly further to the front than on the Steve Gadd signature stick. And in fact, Dave Gadd grips his sticks farther back, so the stick almost ends up with the heel of his hand. For me, that's important when playing in a suit. If the stick is too far back when playing, you can easily get caught in the sleeve, with matched grip even left and right!
