Thanks for the vid James. I just got a Fractal AX8. I have a question. I have a Boss FV 500H Expression pedal. Can that be used as a wah/whammy pedal for the AX8, or is it strictly for volume control, and I need a Mission pedal to get the wah sounds? Thank you.

I don't have personal experience using the FV500H, but it appears it have an expression output on it, and the AX8 should work with most TRS expression pedals. If you already have the 500H I should just try it and see if it works.

Do you have to have a Axe FX to use it or can you just use it with a normal Head and Cab?

Hey James. Can you use this pedal direct into the axe fx without the Mfc101 controller? How can you use the switch + wah function on SP-1 with only 1 pedal in on the axe fx 2? Can I use the EP-1 instead?

Yep. Depending on the version of Axe-Fx that you have, there will be one or two expression pedal inputs on the rear panel. If you have two inputs, you can connect an SP-1, if you have only one input, you can connect an EP-1 and use the Axe-Fx auto-engage function to turn the wah block on and off.

Are you using a Y cable to get that into one single expression input?

No. It's two separate TRS cables, one for the expression pedal and one for the switch. The device you are connecting to needs to have inputs for both. Dave's Axe-Fx in this case does have both.

@@JamesLebihan if I’m understanding, it basically is two pedals. One line will be assigned to control the on off and the other is assigned to control the parameter.

The SP-1 has two TRS outputs. One is connected to the expression pedal, the other is connected to the switch. It maybe possible to use this with the Midicommander connected to both of the EXP inputs. When you assign the switch to a MIDI CC# it will toggle between 0 and 127.

Are you yourself taking the switch output from the sp-1 pedal and going into a midi box expression input (say one with 2 expression inputs) on said device *EXPRESSION INPUT 1* and then going from the expression output of the sp-1 and going into another separate expression input *EXPRESSION INPUT 2*? Then in a plug-in i would assign the separate inputs accordingly (one to toggle wah on/off, the other to manipulate the sweep of the expression). Or does the switch line need a different type of input? I got the tip ring sleeve thing.

Only if the device you are connecting to allows expression controlled volume. In the video Dave is using the SP-1 with a Fractal Audio Axe-FX which is programmable to allow the expression pedal to control volume. So in this case, yes. However, there is no input on the SP-1, so you cannot connect your guitar into it and use it as a regular volume pedal.

The SP-1 requires 1/4" TRS expression pedal inputs, it does not have a MIDI out. If you need the expression pedal to send MIDI you can use the MIDI Solutions pedal converter midisolutions.com/prodped.htm
