This is a chapter of the story of Lopez Station. It's a BIG story, and I'll be doing it a chapter at a time. I quoted Jose Jesus from The Saga of El Tejon book by Frank F. Latta. He interviewed Jose from 1916 until Jose's death in 1939. The location of the Lopez Station is a few miles from me in Granada Hill's. It was the 1st stage station, English speaking school, 1st Post Office and General Store of the San Fernando Valley. Over the years I've read several accounts of Vasquez and his capture, it's covered quite a bit on You Tube and on the internet. JJ's, they called him JJ, account was slightly different. The drama in the family was that Vasquez had gotten his niece Felicita pregnant. Vasquez was a cousin of JJ's mother Catarina, maybe he didn't know. He didn't seem to know him anyway. The last part of the story of his trial, hanging and grave are not JJ's words, but an epilogue. Vasquez's gang robbed and killed quite a few people during his life, he was a lady's man and didn't care if the women were married or not.
Many, many thanks to my dear friend Cristina for letting me use her AWESOME music once again!! This is a link to her latest video!
