Howdy, This is another CA history video. I've traced humans to the beginning, then to the Native Americans being right here in Sylmar. I'm retired now, so it's giving me more time to work on my various projects. I wrote most of this a few years ago. I hope you enjoy my history lesson!!
Also my dear friend, Cristina, let me use some of her music to support my narration. A lot of you likely already know of her, but here are a couple of the links to 2 of the "pieces" I used here. Please visit her site. Thank-You very much Cristina!!

This is what you do best David. You present a chronological, factual, historical story of the Sylmar area dating back thousands of years. I admire your research and your piecing together of all the information. The illustrations that you use enhance the visual context. This was well done David. Bravo !!!!

Thank-You Mark for watching this again! I'm currently researching the local San Fernando Mission (amongst other things). A Spanish soldier, Francisco Reyes, had the land in the 1780's, then when the padres were looking for a spot for the mission, this was the best location. Reyes was happy to turn the land over to them, at that time it was the whole San Fernando Valley. The mission was founded in 1797. I'm also reading about the local GOLD mining, it wasn't as BIG as the northern strikes, but there was some here. I think that might be the next video for the Roamin' series. It was very hard to do all this while i was working full time, even now I'm overwhelmed. I have lots of unfinished stories, since I'd be working on one, then get another idea for a song or story and the previous would get put aside. I have 100's of lyrics, and I'm not sure how many stories. I've been writing a long time. I'm finding stuff that I forgot I wrote!! Thanks again! CHEERS!

Like 51. Wow, awesome stuff! I love learning history - theories, facts, high level guesses.......... (I like listening to everything). Your presentation was so cool! I knew about the ice age bridge from Russia to North America, but I didn't know there was a name given to that temporary bridge part (Beringia). With all of the animals coming to North America (via Beringia) - I wondered why no horses came to North America back then (as well), especially since horses are so plentiful. The Americas didn't have horses back then. It is believed that the first horse came to America in 1519 with Spanish ships. I read that horses were mainly located in North Caucasus in Europe (located between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea). It could be that back in the day (during the ice age and Beringia) horses hadn't migrated to eastern Asia / eastern Russia as yet - to have access to Beringia. Thanks again for all of the info - friend!

Hi Sad, Thank-You very much! As you see I'm very interested in the local history, from way back! 🙂I read that there were some sort of miniature horse here before the ice age, but it took them, along with the mastodon's etc. Thanks for your interest!

Thank-You very much Francisca from Cristina and I!! :-) This is another chapter in my History of Sylmar book. I've been researching it since the 80's. As you know I also did one of the Native Americans, I plan to expand on that one as well. I also want to do another Roamin' video, but haven't decided on which part to do yet. THEN I also started another story about Livin' in Sylmar for 50 Years. I don't really get writer's block, my problem has been having time to finish stories and work for a living. I have quite a few unfinished stories etc. Before I could finish one, another idea came along, or a song, partial song, story! WHEW! Retiring seemed like it was fate. I also live with my mom who is 90, and she needs more help (part of the decision to retire). Then of course my music!! Practicing guitar takes time. I'll be putting out another tune shortly, as soon as I get 1 change a little better! :-) A few years ago I wrote this poem, and it was published (I got $14) But it's about what we go thru for our dream! Enjoy your day! SACRIFICE I’ve got irons in the fire They’re cooking up real slow Once the right one is ready I’ll be good to go I’ve been chasing a dream Trying to make it pay Sometimes it’s not easy Living from day to day People they have told me You’re dreaming your life away Get out and get a real job Something with steady pay I’ve been there and done that Working the nine to five Every day punching a time clock Barely feeling alive I’ve been told I’m a loser I’ll never get anywhere I can’t help what’s inside me The way they all compare I’ve always tried to be different Not like anyone else I’ve got to travel my own road To see what my life holds What I’m doing isn’t easy I’ve had to sacrifice My choices aren’t always perfect I’ve had to pay the price Humans can be so critical They can be so cruel I close my ears and don’t listen I have my own set of rules

PS I also found info about another dig they did, underneath a reservoir here in Sylmar. It's the location of the 1st school in the area as well as the stage station stop where the Butterfield Stage Coach stopped. The dig was done in 1975, they had to do repairs after our 1971 earthquake. I didn't dig into it too much...yet!

Hi, David! You have done a beautiful presentation and research on ancient people who inhabited North America in ancient times. I think there are a lot of things to look for in the ice-covered areas because that's where you can't look for history. Do you think that in the glaciers between Italy, Switzerland and Austria they discovered a person they called Otzi (there is a film about him) it is thought after various carbon studies that he is more than ten thousand years old and hunted at high altitudes. More than sixty tattoos have been discovered in his body, still intact and preserved below zero in a modified atmosphere. Happy continuation of the week and thank you cristina for this music.

The guy who owned it, the Indians who lived on the land and what was going on here at that. Working my way up chronologically! I didn't know if you knew about the CA mission system or not. Thank-You Mark! The next story video will be about Cecil B DeMille. He bought a LARGE piece of property back in Little Tujunga Cyn and had a movie studio there. From 1916 til the 30's or 40's. I just picked up a book today, his biography. I still have songs to get out, I'm still getting my Wah's in the right place for the Wash tune, and am working on several other tunes and stories. So nice being retired. My main responsibility now is my 91 years olde mummy, luckily she's in pretty good shape, so it's mostly dr appt's, grocery shopping, more things in the house, it keeps me extremely busy! Enjoy your weekend!
