I saw the progress bar but couldn't believe it's actually happening until it went past 2:35:00. Like, there's no way! Really? Could it truly be the result? And it was! This was incredible. What a set! Amazing gameplay by Nicov. I'm so impressed. Hera looked shaky in previous sets but he was playing good here. And yet Nicov managed to defeat him. Wow. Final game was so hype. It looked like Hera was pushing back, inevitably going to win... but then he ran out of gold. The suspense, the thrill, the cliffhanger, the plot twist. What a storyline. This set will be remembered for years.

I hate that I cannot avoid seeing this series in context of Hera just being back home from Canada over the holidays and not having played any AoE during the holidays. He nearly lost a game to Cloud on Arabia just before he started this match. Not an excuse: preparation is the player's responsibility and Nicov was the better player on the day. Great win for Nicov and still an achievement to beat Hera regardless, but I hate that my mind puts an asterisk behind this win

Nicov’s performance in this tournament has been astronomical. His understanding of the maps, game sense and decision throughout all culminated in this series. Hera is weakest with both water and nomad maps (which is exactly this tournaments appeal). His mastery of the game lies in his strong fundamentals and consistency. We saw this in the first game. In 99% of cases this is exactly what gives Hera the edge to succeed. But in the context of this tournament, it’s almost a detriment to his ability. Nicov took full advantage of these two facts, and can proudly say he earned the dub.
