I love this track so much. Its been fun with the FF1600 and the Ferrari 296 Challenge. I've had 2 podiums with the FF1600 on this track and have been racing for less than 2 months!

Heya Dave. Great race mate. Just on the pins and needles after the race, I ran a shifter for a while with a DD and found that I had shoulder pain from what I put down to using one hand on the wheel due to making and preparing to make shifts. Adds a great deal of immersion, but, just something to watch out for when it comes to that combination of a dedicated shifter and a DD. Great content as always mate. thanks for your efforts!

Nice race Dave! A tip I sometimes try with a h-pattern is to map gear1 to bottom left, 2 to top middle, and 3 to bottom middle, etc. 2 and 3 get a lot of action sometimes so making that transition easier can help!

the trick for 2->3 and 4->5 on a right handed H shifter is to sorta just shove the stick away, rather than trying to guide it forward and sideways. similarly pull it towards yourself when downshifting from 3rd and 5th

Be good to see a bit of content on manual shift Dave. Couldn’t tell if/how you were using the clutch, heel toe etc. I bought a shifter but have gotten too used to left foot braking it seems!

back in the 80s when i raced we were always told palm towards you for 1st and second and palm away from you for 3rd and 4th. Your hand should be at the side of the gear stick, not on top as yours was. Great channel mate

I did this for real with a 4 speed h pattern on the right. Its bloody hard. I could get up the box but couldnt get 3rd coming down for love nor money!!

The inconsistency of track limits in Iracing is a bit silly. On one hand, you can't even sneeze at the kerbs of Imola without getting an off-track, but on Oulton you can happily send half your car off the track and they shrug it off.

When you say that you're struggling with shifting from 2nd to 3rd: Isn't you shifter pulling to the 3-4-layer? Just pushing the lever forwards should move it out of 2nd and into 3rd, right? I usually don't apply any force to the side when I shift from 2nd to 3rd.

I do that bad shift to 1 instead of 3 all the time. Easily done, and will take out the entire field at Talladega if you pull it off like a pro. You're lucky you didn't blow the engine! (easily done in the Mazda)

Really honest question here. I played ACC for a good while, but just couldn't commit to racing in LFM. I haven't touched my rig in months. I've been thinking about iRacing hard lately, but just want to pop on and have fun. Not racing at near alien level, but just racing around with others about my pace. Is this a reasonable thing to expect with iRacing? I just found ACC very elitists and I couldn't motivate myself to deal with that. Thoughts?

I find a lot of the content that comes with the base game fun! But Dave, I cannot tell you how many people say iRacing costs a lot of money to play which I find intimidates people. I've been playing about 1.5 years and I have only bought cars/tracks that I want to race so I purchased those specifics, but I didn't need to. I tell people all the time that the game is 40% off for new subscribers which makes a 1 year subscription about the price of games anyways ($66 USD) and it comes with plenty of tracks and cars... I tell them to "practice" driving with the cars and tracks that come with it and find what you feel best on. Then race against some "AI" drivers and when you get the hang of racing with other cars that's when you go join some iRacing servers and work on your iRating. The big cost people say is mainly from the wheel/pedal setup... but you can drive with a joystick or a control pad if you prefer. Most people don't buy a race game without a way to drive it anyways!! I bought a PXN 9 because I like driving with a wheel but I don't care for the force feedback yanking my arm out of its socket so I went with the vibration wheel instead (Version 9 Vs. 10) I went with a cheaper wheel in case I didn't care for the game enough to invest in a better wheel setup. A lot of people start driving this sim after driving in arcade style race games so they think banging and bashing is part of the fun, so yeah there can be a lot of immature drivers out there so to me the best time to work on your iRating is from like 1a.m. til 6 a.m. (thats based on your servers time zone - East/West). I appreciate it if you read the whole thing... you deserve a cookie 🍪 :)

I assume you are using a 6 position shifter.... Are you using positions 1-4 or 3-6? I find using 3-6 works more like my real car.

Scuse me for my ignorance, but H Pattern shifter looks way more clunky and too much to think about when racing, is it better for you that paddle shifting? I know you were doing it for realism... Just sub'd as I'm getting a little more serious into SIM racing. My pockets need more depth though for some of the equipment! Hi from Down Under!

Mate, just put it on the correct side for you. Theres no animation for shifting anyway, hbox is hbox, so I don't see what benefit there is having it on your RHS. I know, I know, "realism"....you're still in your spare room at the end of the day.
