Very good and informative video. One thing I'd like to add even though it's not technically related to this video - if you have a clutch pedal, you really should learn to master the clutch pedal instead of relying on auto clutch. I've won multiple close races on both oval and road just by controlling the clutch well and not spinning my tires while exiting my pit stall and gaining just enough time to get in front of others. Not to mention if you're not a rookie driver and you have auto clutch/blip on you're just giving up time for no good reason other than being too stubborn to learn how to drive the car properly, IMO.

I keep hoping to see more population in the IMSA Vintage series to convince myself to try it. I own the Audi purely out of love for it and love the way it drives in this game. Having a torsen centre-diff equipped Audi in IRL with a bigger turbo and rear LSD, it is uncanny how accurate the AWD system reacts in this game in comparison to the real system. Lean into the motor on decel with downshifts to move the power to the front, helping you setup the front end, while full throttle on the exit can borderline make the car oversteer like a RWD car at times. Not to mention, if you feel like you're going too hot into a corner, how a healthy downshift and more throttle can help pull you around, is wild.

Great useful video, thanks. I've just started racing the Ray FF1600 and had been using paddles, switching to the H pattern and blipping made a big difference to my laptimes and enjoyment. I seem to get into a rhythm using the H pattern and its very satisfying (and cool to hear the blips). Slightly disturbingly I have your voice in my head when racing, clearly watched to many of your videos.

A series with FR500S, Pontiac and RUF would be so cool, like an H Production series. Where everyone is there to scrap their hip while heel-toeing with way too heavy brake pedals ha ha So sad the FR500 is out of the production series, really hope we get a modern H car like the fr500 at some point :( Good video !! @@2LAZY-2EDIT The DBR9 was also driven with heel-toeing back in the day. I know that some of the GT1s has had installed autoblips later, but I dont know if iRacing allows to simulate the original layout (i dont think so because one wouldnt have to think about clutch wear on downshifts). In AC with the GT1 pack you can play pretend by using the clutch, and disabling auto blipping, but you dont actually need to use the clutch in that sim You can also see it here and in many other onboards: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nn_KnnuEeZ2LnLcfeature=shared&t=109

clutch use varies too among the sequential paddle shift cars if you want to be really authentic You have foot operated clutches like in the TCRs, wheel-mounted clutches a la F1 as in most GT3s, and there are cars that don’t require manual clutch operation at all even with auto clutch off, like in the Corvette GT3 and LMP2

@macubasu5 күн бұрын
I must be cheating a little! Lets call the H a sequential anyway, select external sequential gear box as main gear switches, select right paddle as secondary up-shift, select left paddle as secondary clutch. So for up-shifting a quick squeeze on both paddles simultaneously (or just the right paddle if clutch is not needed), for down-shifting squeeze left paddle (clutch), and push external sequential gear box. Always the left foot on the brake and the right foot on the throttle. But just for fun I do enjoy a few laps around the Mountain using heel and toe! Great video, thanks Dave.
@mbgmadbull11415 күн бұрын
The next gen NASCAR is not sequential. It's a lift and smash to gear up and blip and smash on the way down. It is actually pretty fun to rip it round a road course tho
@alltheboost53635 күн бұрын
Wastegate is the sound the car makes under load. Sounds like a jet or a small exhaust tube depends if it's recirculated or not most race cars are open atmosphere. it's regulating and bypassing exhaust gases past the turbo to regulate boost. That chirping sound is most likely compressor surge or the blow off valve (bov). Fyi

if you throttle lift too fast in the GTO , yes it's not working, you have to throtle lift longer so the revs match.. you can also flat shift shift with clutch ( full throttle ) but even here, if you clutch too fast ( using a button for example ) it will not work.

A couple of notes, maybe three. The Audi’s gearbox is actually broken and iRacing has refused to fix it. People get misshifts with it fairly often even when properly using the clutch. That should never happen with a synchromesh gearbox because the job of the synchromesh gears is to ensure that both gears have their speeds synchronized so that they will successfully mesh every time. It is basically impossible for it to not go into gear because of those synchros. And the Audi’s is the only synchro gearbox in iRacing that has this problem. We noticed this immediately upon the car’s release and complained over and over about it but iRacing never spent any time fixing it for who knows what reason. It should have been fixed long ago and should still be fixed. I doubt it ever will be. Which sucks. The second thing I wanted to touch on was the trouble/anomaly you think you’ve found with the Aston. I don’t know if there’s actually anything in the code that could cause what you see. However, you do have a habit that I think would contribute to the problem anyway. You tend to downshift incredibly early. To the point where I wouldn’t be surprised if it is causing some instability in the car that affects your braking zone performance. Every time I watch one of your racing videos I notice this immediately. “Holy crap, he’s downshifting super early.” I think in the case of the Aston you might just be trying to downshift before a downshift is even possible sometimes, and it is just blocking you from wrecking the engine. I wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve blown an engine before in a car that has no such protection because of how early you tend to downshift. You might do better if you work on delaying your downshifts a little bit. The car should be more stable and you should see a slight improvement in tire life, improving overall performance. Third is a minor one. Flat-shifting with the clutch versus lifting off the throttle is actually super close in performance. So close that it is practically negligible, and I prefer to shift the car the way you would in real life. You’d never shift any of those cars by keeping the throttle pinned and using the clutch. You’d burn up your clutch in no time. And before it burned up you’d be slow anyway from it slipping so much. You would only shift them by lifting off the throttle and ignoring the clutch. So I prefer to shift them that way just because it is proper. Yeah, lots of people claim it is faster to flat-shift, but close examination of telemetry shows this is not really correct. It is too close to call in every car I’ve tested. So I defer to how you’d actually do it in the real car, which is lifting.

I do love the Audi but don't like the multi class aspect of the series. I agree it would be great if iracing made this free and had a single make series. I think it would be very well received.

Well described! There is also this official page listing the gear boxes and their handling on iRacing Website. While downshifting the dog box seq shifter you can actually hold the downshift for a few seconds and just blip when you wanna do the shift. With the H pattern dog box you can even pre-select the next gear and then eventually let the throttle cut do the gear change later.
@Starfox_1FC5 күн бұрын
