Super video, Dave, and your weathering on the gasometer kit is most excellent. The WHWW OHLE looks just the part for modern era layouts especially, as you say, with the proliferation of some excellent models - I was delighted to learn from them at Model Rail Scotland that us 'N' gauge folk won't be left out and that they'll introduce the same items in N once the 'OO' has undergone its full launch.

Thanks so much Dave for this great update and the amazing news regarding OHLE and the links! I've just ordered all the track for my first layout in 36 years, it will be based on the WCML south of Birmingham circa early 80s. Nearly all the motive power is now available, I have even ordered an essential Britannia Pacific Class 310. My biggest concern has always been the correct knitting so this is very positive news. Now my only concern is the post as I'm doing it all in Thailand!

Dave it’s always great to catch up on all the new developments at Dean Park. No9 really sounds good. Really takes the model to the next level. If I hadn’t already gone down the Hornby HM7000 sound route for my Dublo A4 & A3 this would definitely be my choice too. The Mk2 coaches really are the dog’s pyjamas. I’ve got the WCRC liveried coaches which look great behind Scotsman & No9. I can highly recommend them to you. You’re right to highlight the improvement in the magnetic couplings & the onboard lighting. Having had a demo of the WHWW catenary at Model Rail Scotland I’m now really looking forward to seeing the final product. Interestingly, the WHWW guys were keen to know if I would use wires. They know their stuff and highlighted the difficulty in producing a correct scale wire. I think I’m likely to not bother with the wire and trust my failing eyesight to trick me into thinking they’re there.

Hi Dave, a good update on the layout, as a youth (50 something years ago), I worked with a uncle on a milk round (the canteen & offices were delivered to), we delivered to Romford Gas Works, I was first surprised at the number of brick buildings and number of pipes with walls around them! some 30 year later I worked for Yara delivering furtizer, at two of the storage plants Bristol & Dagenham docks they had riveted storage tanks (these were pre WW2, after which they were all welded). Also when Omex took the oil depot at Ipswich over they had to change all the valves, screw shut off points, from brass/alloy to steel as the fertilizer dissolved the metals, brass or alloy was used due no sparks. On naming the Peak, its your railway it looks right so what is wrong? I can remember seeing a exhibition layout were all the locos, wagons & carriages were painted by hand using Humbrol oil paint by brush in lates say very original colours.
@DeanPark
@DeanPark 7 ай бұрын
Cheers! I’ll have some pipes going in their direction. And perhaps going underground before reaching them. I’ll have to see. I really like my Peak depot pet loco. Wanted to name one after the layout for years. So I decided to give that honour to a dirty old peak.:-)

Overall good update here Dave, some great things covered, the new accurascale mk2s look quite nice, might be something I add in the future though as currently I made more than enough mk2 coaches plus I’m currently on the lookout for other models right now, mainly wagons, that overhead catenary looks quite good, maybe something I will try in the future also as I would like to try doing an overhead line when I can start building a layout, overall a good job on the 45, while I will admit I’m not a huge fan of fictional locomotives in OO gauge I can overlook something that relates to the layout and having a loco named after your layout is certanly a good idea, overall some great things in this update Dave, keep up the great work.

nice video. That gas tower looks really nice. If you are going to put it in a tight spot, and still want more of them, you could take a photo of the finished kit, in the correct lighting and print it. Put the cutout behind or next to the gas tower and voila you got an impressive industrial site. I have done that with walters cementsilos and could double that building without using mores space. Thanks for the video !

I like the work on the gas tank especially the rusting effect. A question though - you say (rightly) that the bits exposed to the air and weather would be more affected, but by that argument the bottom layer would be horrible. Perhaps the answer is that the bottom layer is easier to maintain. Whatever, it adds to the whole atmosphere of the layout.

When you mount the 1/2 Gas Storage Tank it may well look better if the other i/2 of the lattice could be represented behind the low relief. A photo taken from the inside before you mounted the Tank might work, either photographed against the Bask seane or printed onto clear OP Film so that the background shows through the Lattice.

Loved the sound fitment piece you did on it, it sounds great and I’m tempted now to add sound into one of my own. Just a question. That said, the weathered Peak looks fantastic. Keep it coming Dave. Great stuff

Hi. It’s the recent great gathering model yeah. I’m confident in weathering structures and scenery. And I’m now starting to dabble in rolling stock. However for this task I wanted Alex to do the honours. I will eventually tackle my own rolling stock. But at the price of things and not having time to really focus on it I’m happy to leave it to more experienced people for now. I’m sure I could do it. As you say, my attention to detail is there and I’ll give things a go. So one day I’ll unveil a weathered loco or two done by me ;-) I study the ones I get done for me and it’s certainly not beyond my abilities. But it’s still beyond my bravery lol

Dave, I've enjoyed your videos for some time now, while I begin work on my own layout. My current plans are to build a small layout in the garage but I wondered whether the loft might be a more suitable location. I note in the recent videos, the excellent lighting and insulated cladding and, in searching some of the earlier videos, that these weren't fitted. Have you done a video on developing the loft to accommodate your layout? If so, could you point me at it? Thanks
@DeanPark
@DeanPark 7 ай бұрын
Hi, I added the foil during my layout build. It’s stapled to the trusses. It doesn’t stop the place getting cold or hot on summer but it does help take the extremes off these temperatures. Also, it stops damp. The lighting has recently been upgraded using LED style lighting…similar to a twin fluorescent tube unit but now LED.

Hi. No they don’t. They are quite big structures in model form so they look ok on a OO gauge. Plus I’ve got them at the back of the layout so the slightly smaller scale helps force perspective a little. There are not OO gauge options out there so these have to do. Cheers. Dave
