Very many thanks for more gorgeous colours and glorious views. The Compton Down map of Australia and its history was fascinating, as also the Fovant Badges.

There are some superb views to both the North & the South from the top of that ridge .... well worth the effort of the uphill "hike" to get there!

Blimey Dave, you almost needed pitons and ropes for scaling Compton Down, dedicated to duty as per normal! And Logan's concern when you "collapsed" was quite touching. Glad you missed any rain, and I suppose because of the chalk and height, it looked reasonably mud-free. Keep 'em coming.

We were lucky with the weather - those "dark" clouds were a worry at one stage!

Wow, what a walk! Broad Chalk looks like an absolutely charming village. Loved all the history you shared, especially the bits about the vicarage and the old shops. Those thatched cottages are picture-perfect 😍. The Australian map carved into that hill was something else! I definitely need to put this place on my must-visit list. Thanks for taking me along! 😊

Heck, you certainly put some effort into this one Dave especially retrieving the camera on Compton Hill. My paternal ancestors farmed in that area in the 16th and 17th centuries then migrated to Hampshire using some of the drove roads shown.
@DaveFord

Thanks Mark. Yes, there was certainly some climbing to be done up that hill. I think I need to train Logan to "retrieve" the camera in future!

Hello Dave. I suppose you can now claim to have walked around Australia! At one of your pit stops I thought Logan was holding his front left paw off the ground. I may have been mistaken, as he looked fine afterwards. Lovely scenic walk with beautiful views.
@DaveFord

Logan was holding his paw off the ground ,when he was sitting down, when we stopped at the Compton Hut. It was on the top of the ridge and basically he was feeling the cold (there was a stiff wind up there). Shortly afterwards, I put his fleece back on. It was one of those days when one moment it was chilly and at other times (when the sun came out!) it got quite warm. He was wearing his coat at the start of the video (when we were filming in the village) because we were standing still a lot but I took it off when we headed out into the countryside as he was starting to get quite warm.

What a lovely walk Dave and Logan, I loved those properties at the beginning and also that beautiful church with the lovely stained glass. Stunning views along the way. It was good to see Fiver and to learn about the activities you both do together. The music you use is really nice. Wiltshire is so lovely, we will be there next month. Happy Easter to you and your family 🐣

That Compton Down was steep ! Your tripod did well to stay upright. Nice video as always
@DaveFord

Thank you. Yes, I was struggling to keep the tripod from moving in that strong wind (the image stabilization on the camera was getting tested to the limit!).

A very interesting village and love the ancient tracks and byways. I was getting worried when you mentioned the pub had been demolished but not only was there a spare camera but a back up pub too. Australia was a surprise - no Tasmanian devils made it up that hill then .... !!
@DaveFord

Thanks Jean. At least if we had come across a Tasmanian devil then it would have been a quick getaway down that hill!

Another great video, Dave, thanks for sharing. I’ve noticed you’ve done a fair few walks near Salisbury recently. Out of interest, do you plan on doing part of the Clarendon Way walk one day? It stretches from Salisbury to Winchester, but it could be cut shorter and end in Pitton.
@DaveFord
@DaveFord 7 ай бұрын
I have a few more "Walks in Wiltshire" planned for this year. I have come across sections of the Clarendon Way on a few walks in the past (eg Kings Somborne). I will certainly have to incorporate more sections of it into future walks. Thanks for the recommendation.

Gorgeous walk Dave thank you. I do like the humorous items too. You’re introducing me to a new way of walking enjoying the surroundings, not so focused on distance and time. Thank you. How do you do research? We’re visiting Wiltshire in April!,
@DaveFord
@DaveFord 7 ай бұрын
Thank you Neil.I do all my research in the Winter months. I look up old aps on the National Library of Scotland website and refer to books such as Arthur Mee's "King's England" series. Village websites as well as "British History Online" are also very good sources of information. One website to avoid though is Wikipedia!

Another great video Dave and Logan! How are you getting on with the Insta 360, would you recommend it?
@DaveFord
@DaveFord 7 ай бұрын
Thank you Robert. Really pleased with the Insta360 Ace Pro. Beats the Gopro 10 in every aspect! It has a special setting for "low light " situations which is brilliant. Image quality & image stabilization is as good as the Gopro. There is a better zoom function. Importantly of all - so far, it has NEVER let me down (ie always switches on & off when required and the picture never freezes ..... unlike the Gopro!). The only real negative is that the focus isn't great "up close" so when you are "vlogging", you really need to make sure the camera is as far away from your face as possible (at least 70 cm, if not more). Luckily the main aspect of my videos is the scenery and so the "vlog" aspect isn't that important.

Dave, do you have a drone or do you walk quickly while filming Logan’s fast walks? Love your posts.

Thanks Chris. No, I don't have a drone. I just use an extension on my camera handle and follow behind Logan ..... walking / jogging at a "brisk" pace!
