These features also weren’t built around 29” wheels and massive 1200-1350mm wheelbases. Which makes them even trickier to ride nowadays.

I think that depends on what type of Rider you are and what type of bike you're on. If you're on an Enduro type or downhill bike then it's not harder, if you're on an XC bike yes it's harder

I've ridden the Ogoflogo on two separate occasions: one when I was riding a size small Devinci Spartan, the other when I was on a medium. The medium felt so much sketchier because I had to pivot my back wheel to make the corner as I came around the stump and passed the point of no return. It was terrifying! I would love to have a really short play bike for this kind of stuff.

Also, modern MTBs have much wider handlebars! I remember when I bought my bike a few years ago and that was the first thing I noted. I test rode 10-12 new XC bikes and all of them had (IMO) wide handlebars, and each Salesman said it was for increased control and high speed stability on the trails. Epic, nutty, and unforgiving trail!

Anybody know what happened to the forest here? The old footage is green and lush.. all the trees are dead in Dave's footage. Looks pine beetle, but I wasn't aware of any of those kinds of issues in the coast.
@Warfoki
@Warfoki Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, pine beetles are spreading and unlikely to stop, in fact the problem is only going to get worse. Winter regulated their numbers previously, as most of the pine beetles died from the frost, then their larvae repopulated the area. Except with global warming, the winter frosts are shorter and less cold, so pine beetles survive it at higher and higher altitudes each year, and without the frost regulating their numbers, they have been overpopulating like crazy.

Also the crazy looper moth outbreaks in recent years (especially in that area). If you look closely at the mountains from afar, you'll notice many of the trees are now brown
@EricRBTube
@EricRBTube Жыл бұрын
The other reply is correct, it's looper moth. If you search "looper moth lynn headwaters" you'll find more information. It's resulted in the introduction of a tree hazard management program, which includes cataloging trees in GIS and some widespread danger tree removal near roads and trails. It will be interesting to see how some unsanctioned but popular trails, like the Cedar Tree Trail/Kennedy Falls, play out in the coming years.

I don't use the word "literally" sarcastically, but this is literally my worst nightmare. I can't fathom these speeds through such an obstacle-heavy forest and uneven ground. I don't ride my bicycle anymore, but when I did even something so little such as roots sticking out from the ground induced panic. I don't know how you can do this, but I'm very glad it exists. You clearly know what you are doing so watching these is both terrifying but also comforting knowing you're safe and around people who also know what they're doing.
