HobbyKing RX3S OrangeRX 3-Axis Flight Stabilizer V2 (V-tail/Delta/AUX) Part 2

Part 2 Review of HobbyKing RX3S OrangeRX 3-Axis Flight Stabilizer V2.
This version now has the ability to be switched on/off remotely from your RC transmitter.
I also has two exta configurations for V-tail and Delta Wing(Elevons).
LED will flash if you have the V-Tail or Delta mode switches ON/Reversed.
For V-Tail, the two servos for it are normally put in the rudder and elevator sockets.
For Delta, the two servos for it are normally put in the aileron and elevator sockets.
For Flaps or Flaperons see workaround below:
Work around for Adding Flaps posted by TechKnow in HK discussion:
"The TRUE best answer for useing this with 2 aileron servos with mixed in flaps/spoilers is to buy 2 TURNIGY V-Tail Mixer's and add them out of each of the L-ail and R-ail output of the stabilizer and use TURNIGY V-Tail Mixer to mix in separate non mixed raw flap chanel from RX with a Y adapter cable each of the Y output cable to each of the other input of the 2 TURNIGY V-Tail Mixers and set servo reversing as needed. Each V-tail mixer is only $3. And useing 2 v-tail mixers is smaller and lighter and cheaper than buying a second stabilizer just to use only its aileron output. Or useing one stabilizer and only stabilize one aileron. With my way you will have both ailerons stabilizing airplane with flaps/spoilers , not just one."

everytime I put my stabilizer in a new diy foamy I have to go back and watch this video to remember- ok the pins on stabilizer go towards the rear of the plane....thanks again for making this!!!

I use my own videos too. It's hard to remember all this stuff. Now I have moved on to use mini-quad flight controllers for my planes because they have more robust stabilization plus auto-level. That gets even more complex.

with Inav you can make the plane fly back home, around in circles, or up and down the rows of corn via gps....

Thanks again for this really clear and practical video. I have had had great success doing video lost model finding with my v.1 units, but I gave my 2 new v.2 3-Axis Stab. units to my friends in frustration, because I could not stop servos from hunting on my Hitec A9 servos, which I guess is because I did not switch on Aux Sw. on either of my new 3-Axis Stabilisers. I had the lead in but did not move tiny selector Sw. over on Aux. to enable remote on/off. Now to order 2 more units.

Awesome Video! I have one question? When i did the set up like yours, it seems that stabilizer is very slow to react even if the gyro are set high. Do you have any suggestions? Oh, HobbyKind did come out with a stabilize/receiver in one. thanks for the help.

When I tryed to use mine on a three channel plane it would have the servos chatter / jyrate with no change in angle till I pluged in a third servo.

Thank you for your video it was realy helpfull. I have another question. Will flaps work using a Spektrum DX 9 tx. If yes, what would be the set up with the TX? i.e: Channel assigned, type of aircraft, ext... I have both the RX and Stab working with the DX9 but I cannot get the Flaps working. Without the Stabilizer, I get everything working.

very helpful! i've a dx6i, in the gear channel i have the gear of the plane, and in Flap/gyro channel on the transmitter (=aux in the rx) i put the plug for activate or disactivate the gyro, but i cant off it. it's ever on!!

Chan 5 of the RX will be going to your gear so you have to run a wire from the Receiver channel 6 (Aux1) to the RS3X V2 Aux input. Then set the dip switch on the RS3X to activate it.

***** Sorry but I don't understand. I have this problem also with the OrangeRX RX3S COMBINED receiver/gyro and Spektrum DX6i AND Turnigy 9XR. It will NOT turn off, even though those channels will drive a servo.

Richard Haynes The AUX CTRL GYRO switch on the RS3X must be set to allow it to be turned off remotely.

I have enjoyed your videos and found them quite helpful, thankyou. However, I have, I assure you, already spent hours testing this with the switch in both positions. The manual says that the (vertically oriented !) switch must be to the 'right'. My current thinking is that the issue is trying to find the point where the 'off' command is between 1.7ms and 2.1ms (p.3 of the 'manual'). Editing Sub-trim seemed to hold out some hope, but in the end that hasn't yet worked either. If 'ms' is distance in mili-seconds between pulses, that's fine but which hobbyist has any means of measuring it. Any further thoughts?

It's unfortunate that HK used the designations V2 and V3 because they are not enough alike to be just a version change. The V3 is a completely different model having the built-in hardwired receiver.

Hi, do you know if this stabilizer will diminish battery life thus flight time? It seems as soon as the stabilizer is turned on the servos start twitching like crazy. Also, will this affect my servo's life expectancy? Thanks!

The LED in my RX3S flashes. Does this mean anything? I saw in your video that yours was glowing steady. ..also what do you think about mounting it up-side-down on the bottom of a flying wing?

This was by far the most helpful video.I am new at this hobby and have some questions . 1)If i order from hobbyking it comes with the cable connectors or i have to order separate? 2)I have 4 channel transmitter fm 35mhz .You said it works with all.My receiver has 5 channels though(don't know why).If i do not use aux to take it on-off will it work? 3)Can we do something so the servos won't shake when pluged with battery? 4)I have 11,1v lipo battery 3c does this matter?

1. no 2. yes 3. No, The shake is normal unless you turn the gains very low. 4. No, The Stabilizer should get 5 volts from the receiver or 5v UBEC on the ESC.

+José Alberto Varona Sánchez In my opinion it is more like AS3X. It just stabilization that can be turned on/off remotely. No auto leveling at all.

OK, first you have it mounted on Velcro which they say not to do because it will be affected by vibration (instead of double-sided tape) and secondly although this video has "Delta" in the title there is nothing at all here about delta mixing setup.

Are those receivers spektrum compatible? Or are you using an Anylink?

Yes the receivers are HobbyKing Orange RX Spektrum compatible using DSM2. However you can use whatever receiver you want with the V2. So if you want to use a Tactic RX you could.

Yes, but you dont say that so everyone who sees your video thinks its OK to use velcro? In the Notes you say it flashes for Delta or V-Tail setting but you don't mention the important fact that it flashes for different lengths of time for each of the Two settings. Well done, have fun making your videos but get it right or Thousands of people are confused instead of being helped.
