Hello Dave I don't often comment because of the 13 and a half hour time difference. My mother had what could be called a mild interest in classical music and three of her LPs got me hooked, for which I am eternally grateful to her. One was the almost universally panned Boulez Beethoven 5 which, because of its importance to me, I still love. One was a recording of Sibelius 2. And the third was a recording of Respighi's The Birds and Church Windows. I can no longer recall either the conductor or the orchestra. Church Windows has not had that many recordings, but again I love it because of its importance to my discovery of classical music. Beyond that, I would like you to know that your videos have become genuinely valuable to me. I have spent most of my life working in regional areas where access to live music has been very limited. Since finding your site, I have felt part of a broader community of like minded people. Thanks again.

The Finster show! I love it. Oh yes - Respighi; Love him too..... "Belkis Queen of Sheba" on Chandos. A gem! The first Respighi that I ever heard. It had me from the outset.

I thought I was a good collector of Respighi cd's with my twenty or so references (I love Respighi too), but obviously I'm still a bit of a gambler on this one ! The “Sinfonia Drammatica” is an absolutely superb work, wonderfully written and poignant, and it's so little played and known... I bought this Naxos CD on your recommendation, and it's still one of my favorite versions today. Thank you so much !

Good to see you mention the opera Lucrezia. There’s also Belfagor and La Fiamma which are very worthwhile.

I love Respighi too. My first Respighi record was the Toscanini Fest Romane coupled with Hary Janos bought from a drugstore rack in 1959! I'm still collecting, and my current favorite is Church Windows on Chandos.

I was wondering when you were going to get to Respighi's operas! (Well, one opera, anyway.) I hadn't known that Respighi studied with Rimsky-Korsakov (just like Stravinsky). And I love seeing the "Abbado" box in the back; it looked like a high-end speaker.

Dave, I love the DePreist/Oregon Symphony recording of Feste, along with the Lutoslawski Concerto for Orchestra. I was wondering, though: how exactly do you organize and inventory the CDs in your collection? Are you generally able to retrieve a particular CD when you want to play it? I don't have quite as many CDs as you but have about 3,000 and am looking for ideas.
