I have watched several of your tutorials now. I am an elderly quilter who prefers to not buy patterns, but to kind of freelance each quilt for the person. I honestly believe you are a quilting genius. You think outside the box and you make it happen. I am so glad I have found your quilting craft room. I have learned many things from you. I went to Japan with my daughter for 17 days! We traveled by the incredible train system, a variety of buses, and wonderfully clean taxi service cars. I loved talking to so many of the people of Japan everywhere we went. I arrived with one small Aloha print backpack and returned with two new rolling suitcases filled with heavy vintage kimonos, silk jackets, and cotton yukatas new and old. The most wonderful trip into the most beautiful and culture packed traditional experience of my life. My sewing room/ guest bedroom is and has become my space to surround myself with so many treasures to my eyes all stitched and woven in textiles. This explains in part why this is definingly my favorite quilt you have made so far. Also, A special Thanks to your boss that has allowed you to grow within your work which truly is how people come to put joy and their selfs into a Company. 💕💕

Definitely worth a 2 week wait! I have been cutting out my old jeans and collecting indigo fabric (including a piece I dyed). I was inspired to make a borro jacket by Kate of The Last Homely House. I plan to hand quilt using the sashiko style. Now I may applique a few Japanese themed pieces thanks to you! You are a marvel!!

My sister was stationed in Okinawa. She told us that there were graves everywhere. However, the native people were wonderful. I have found that small spools will work inside cones. Your quilt turned out very nice. It looks much older than it is. Thank you for this lesson.

Thks for sharing what other countries are doing. I have heard of shibori and shashiko stitching. I have tried the stitching. I have never heard if boro before. Beautiful quilt and great boss!

Amazing!!!OMG I literally stumbled upon your channel because of the word "Flannel". I am so glad that I did. I was searching for a more freelanced approach to quilting as well as learning the terms, the equipment , technique, styles, etc...My experience is novice and always learning. My attitude is I know I can learn how to Quilt. But, I have always considered that any form of hand made work is also an Art form. You are just that. An Artist of Fabric. And good job security too! 😂 I've made a "quilt interview form" for making things for people that I don't know much about their personal lives. 3 fave colors; bright or subdued; introvert or extrovert; fav pastimes; then I have 5 quilt pics, from traditional to modern and ask which style they like best - knowing that this NOT representative of what I am making (unless that IS the one they want). It really helps with creating the perfect quilt for them. Now I guess I am going to crack open my indigo and oriental fabrics and sew something! Thanks for the great idea!

I love those fabrics and always wated to make a quit from them but could not afford it - I use a lot of second hand fabric - but I loved watching you make it. You have many skills Dave - i've seen you cut a circle freehand with a rotary cutter, cut other shapes freehand, fold the edges under before applique (many don't do that but I like to, and your machine quilting is great - and you come up with your own designs - I do that too. I think there are many types of people who make quilts - the pattern followers, the designers, the patchworkers and the fancy quilters - room for everyone. I'm looking foward to the maple and eucalyptus results after seeing the episode that started it and also being Australian. I wish youtube had not removed the dates episodes were posted, it's hard to work out the order. Love from Oz

thank you ! if you go to my channel and click on Playlists, there is a playlist called Dave's Craft Room Videos which contains each of my videos and I *believe* they appear in the order that I uploaded them. BUT! The funny thing is, because some quilts take longer than others and some videos take longer to edit, the videos don't necessarily come out in the order that I made the quilts 😅 They don't necessarily need to be watched in any order although the playlist is there if you prefer it 😜

I always look at the quilt on the wall behind you and that gives me an idea of what came before - and some quilts were made before you got the little iron and the quilting frame. See - we see everything and remember. Sometimes you pull out a fabric scrap that I've seen before, that's fun. Dave I am using your videos to destress from the problems of the world. When I need to veg out, but don't have the time or energy to sew myself, I watch you ... or the girl who makes viking clothes. It's like therapy. You said that your boss liked the quilt - that doesn't say much. He should have been delighted or excited and something more than liked. I am the son of a Japanese father, I am vaguely familiar with SACHIKO, the term BORO is new. My mother kept a piece of clothing from my grandparents,that defines BORO, patched, different fabrics, all old and handmade
