This guide highlights the top 3 spec's for mage's to use in both pve and pvp. The 3 spec's I go over is fire, aoe frost and arcane / frost. I explained in depth where I think each points should go and why/when to use each spec.

Thank you very much. As a new mage I would personally do most frost with splash of arcane. This allows u to farm gold in open world along with be good damage in dungeons. Great for pvp they only thing it lacks is max raid damage

when you're AOE farming, you dont need 3 points in ele precision.. cause normally they are lower lvl mobs.. and there's always 1% resist chance.. so depending on your gear.. if you have 3% hit you dont need it. 1 point if you only have 1% hit from gear

Well there are several depending on ur play style. I like to pvp as full frost though fire is great for more burst but less damage mitigation. As of phase 5 for pve spec u want to go fire spec and keep ignite rolling.

this is what I came up with.. haven't been able to really play that much to farm gold... but I still want to raid AND PvP... so I think its a very good all around fun spec to play with. You get pompyro for the pvp one-shots.. a lot of control with impact and improved scorch/ignite.. enough mana regen and restoration from resists and crits.. a little extra dmg mitigation from mana shield and if your guild is cool with it, you can still pump the meters during Naxx without having to respec every week hop it helps! feel free to swap points around i.e. Master of Elements/ Firepower / Burning Soul depending of your playstyle.. I am used to playing deep frost PvP, so I am always kiting, even when playing fire.. so I just got the most utility I could find.. tested it yesterday in Naxx (11/15 no wipes) and gonna try to get KT tonight .. not at the top of dmg meters, but definitely not at the bottom... and I AM helping a lot with keeping ignite on.. classic.wowhead.com/talent-calc/mage/2300550001221-055222012303311

I would skip Counterspell and Cone of cold, shatter. Max Ice shards and Piercing ice, the rest into Winter's Chill..(this way singel target dmg is decent enough to do raids/instances) and you can aoe grind just using your blizzard, when it comes down to it blizzard is more trust worthy then cone to deal dmg / and not gett hitt by higher-level / mobs with a chance to resist.

Ya that is a great point and idea for max damage while having winters chill spec for sure. My guild didn’t care what the winterschill person did as long as they had that. But I can see what u mean for sure

Ahh I’m sorry I was reading this was under a different video this makes sense now. So now most mages are fire spec for ignite with aq. There is really only like 2 bosses and 1 boss in bwl immune to fire. Most now with high crit go fire for most damage. Frost is solid for reducing damage taken but isn’t the king for pve now. Arcane / frost is still viable and if I was leveling I would go more frost first for ease of leveling

Ahh aq and bwl are raids If u don’t plan to get into end game hardcore raiding then full frost spec and some into arcane is the way to go for everything else

Hey Dave, what aoe farming are you doing that you find 3/3 elemental precision a requirement?

The 3/3 elemental isn't for the aoe farming aspect you could really move all those points as long as you have a little hit gear. I make my aoe build able to go to raiding without having to respec each week. With removing the 5 points in shatter part and put it in Winter's Chill. This allows me to provide the debuff for other mages along with still having 5 points in ice shards for the high crit damage. But you are 100% right unless u are solo MC then the points are pointless for pure aoe spec.

Yes. There is some viable hybrid builds. I don't know why you would disingenuously label your hybrid build as the "best aoe farming build" when it's very simply not.

Take the point out of artic reach for your raid build to keep the 2% more damage you won't really notice the shortened distance

the best area of effect spec is deep frost into fire. rotation is cone of cold, frost nova flame strike, cone of cold. this rotation gives max DPS with min mana use

Another great point I have used this but find myself using blizzard as I know it’s not typically the best but I find it super safe and rarely die when doing it that way. But as most dps output the fire and frost is def the way to go

Arcane Power Frost: 3 into Arcane Focus (You need 4% hit on gear to be Hit capped on Arcane with Elemental Precision so no need to max this), 4 into Magic Absorbtion, 3 into Improved Arcane Explosion (Great for suppression room), Get rid of wand spec, Get rid of Imp Counter spell (Useless in Raids more for PVP), Take one point out of Arctic Reach and put it into Piercing Ice.

Awesome feedback! I can def see arcane explosion I forgot about suppression room and the bomb guy packs that would help a lot. I was thinking if magic absorption should wasn't sure if you got good value out of it ? I guess resisting some of the bosses ticking mass aoe like chromagus debuff, firemaw and some others would then give you bunch of mana back? I didn't put any in at first thinking you shouldn't be getting hit with spells which would neglect that but I see what u mean.

@@DaveTheGamer-detailedguides Magic absorbtion is more of a filler talent to be honest. Nothing else is really going to give you any value so just take the extra resistance. You're not going to fully resist a whole lot of stuff, but it DOES lower damage taken by a bit. You could make an argument for wand spec instead BUT realistically you shouldn't be wanding aside from maybe a second or two. I fully resisted a Shadowflame from a botched Firemaw pull just last week. Was funny to see half the raid go down around me lol. Arcane Explosion is good for Harbinger in MC as well.

@@stillthebody-movethemind6346 those are excellent tips. I always thought wand for like wanding onyxia and nef but that isnt much needed once the tanks can generate more threat. The extra resistance is very nice. I bet ur raid was like wdf how did the mage survive after that shadow flame. Mage tank Is the new meta
