Unmatched fluidity and dynamics by any drummer I've ever heard in any genre in my 24 years of playing! You can even remove the music and drumming will be a story for itself, yet it perfectly compliments the music and never feels or sounds contrived or "overplayed". That's why Dave is my number one drummer of all time.🍻

The man’s a legend, and the Master Plan was my initial intorduction to jazz. In my late teens Dave quickly became one of the top artists on my playlists - and perhaps an unlikely one given that the lists had previously consisted of underground thrash metal bands. I love how Dave’s music opened a whole new musical world to me. Much respect, always loved your playing, still do.

Hi Dave! I've been to concerts where you played with bands like the Elektric Band or the Dave Weckl Acoustic Band, but I've never seen you perform Tower of Inspiration. Even though I've seen you play Tower '99 in some video clips, I've never seen "Tower of Inspiration" you performed. I really appreciate that you uploaded "Tower of Inspiration" that you played. This reminds me of the year 1990 when I bought your first solo CD. Thanks a lot!

His timing, phrasing, accents, his wrists, snare tone and anything else you can throw in are impeccable. Simon Philips has been my favorite drummer for years. Weckle now wears the crown..
@a.s.49146 ай бұрын
Simon is no slouch! 🤣 Seriously though I hate "the best drummer" label, just too many talented drummers to exclude if you break them down to one.....Carl Palmer, Neil Peart, Buddy Rich,Max Roach, Billy Cobham....you see what I mean? There's elite drummers and good drummers. I'd say Weckl is in the elite category. 😉
@knobachan9 ай бұрын
I can only say that Dave Weckle is more sophisticated and amazing, with the same technique and motivation as he got older. I've always liked this song as well. You can't talk about a drummer without knowing Dave's charm. He's my drum mentor in a way. In particular, the fusion of Latin and jazz is attractive.
@daviddicara9915 ай бұрын
I remember shedding this song when it came out back in 89? 90? I was a kid in brooklyn, 14 or 15 and decided I had to learn this. I would have killed for a lesson like this back then! Dave became my drum hero. I was a "prodigy" and could play note for note just about anyone but there was something about Dave that blew my mind and still does to this day. I will say it...Dave Weckl is the most musical and dynamic drummer I have ever heard and I studied them all. He is just in a league of his own with his musicality and ability to convey. On top of that he is his influences have brought out the most wonderful sense of rhythm the world has ever heard. Dont misunderstand me, Vinnie and Virgil and Thomas, Chris and Mike and Buddy and Elvin and on and on are all genius's but Dave Weckl is still the most special out of anyone who has ever lived. Chops wise he is very elite, maybe not to Virgil or Chris level but that might just be double bass or music style related I have a hard time thinking Dave couldn't play anything he wants to if he set his mind to it but when I look at overall musicianship, for me Dave Weckl is the greatest drummer to have ever lived.

I started playing drums when I was 12 years old. I played along to rock music for a year or two, until our neighbor knocked on the front door one day and said he'd heard me playing - he came with a handful of CD's to give me, one of them was Masterplan. I had no idea who Dave Weckl was and when I first listened to Masterplan, I couldn't believe how drums could sound like that! I was hooked instantly and I've been playing for 30 years now. Dave has always been a big influence for me, and it all started with Masterplan! Thanks Dave!

When I see this master play it reminds me of my old boxing coach who trained since he was 9. He was still training as a coach when he was 59, that’s how old he was when I started training with him. Everything he did from light touches, inside uppercuts, light jabs….all hurt. His full punches were devastating at almost 60. Weckls light touches still ring with a controlled power. This whole video he looks like he’s barely touching the drums but he’s pulling out some great sounds with great intensity. Master Dave

Me Weckl. This music you play and the way in which you do so demonstrates the versatility and musicality of the drym set. Dave sets a great example for us older drummers as over his journey of continued improvement in technique he seemingly has eliminated virtually all wasted or exaggerated motion. If you’re young and crazy, you can afford to burn energy as you play, Dave demonstrates the intelligence of an “older pro” that’s gotta play a fast and furious set and do it again the next night.
