A really great and inexpensive bag can be made out of Tyvek, which is intended as a waterproof house wrap. The material is cheap and building the bag only takes a few minutes.
You can make several bags from a single roll of tyvek and almost any size.
I've made several bags for camping and it helps a lot to keep things organized and compact.

I'd suggest washing the tyvek in a washing machine first (without soap). It won't lose its water resistance or strength, but it will no longer be really loud and crinkly. It'll be soft and cottony. You can also make tarps and tents and backpacks out of it!

Have you considered going over the seams with a rubber roller? Some adhesives require a lot of force + time to properly whet onto the surface. Also, at 8:27, you don't need to cut the side---just fold it all the way around. Last point: this is some heavy ass construction. For light and ultralight applications, stitching might be better. More involved process than using tape, though. Nice backpack, too. Thanks for sharing.

The roller is a good idea, but the tape is fairly sticky when it comes in contact with the tyvek. For weight i wish i could use a lighter tape though. Stitching is better, but more work. In the past i've made a kite and backpack with tyvek - combination of sewing and packaging tape. Ain't tyvek great? Made alot of stuff sacks with it over the years, never thought about doing it with duct tape. Just a suggestion. If you don't have one already, pick up a old sewing machine and try making one with that. It'll give you more options (ie: tool rolls) They can be had for 0 to $50 for an old cast iron Singer. Dan

Very helpful information! For a good while I have been thinking that tyvek would make an excellent material for a backpacking tent, waterproof, breathable, lightweight. I understand that it is noisy but have heard if you launder it a few times it softens it and makes it less crinkly and quieter. Have you ever tried to make one?

Maybe, but i'm not sure if it matters? I just know that tyvek is not necessarily waterproof, but breathable. (letting moisture on the wood side of the house outward)

I have no idea about air plane wings. So i don't want to even say Maybe.
