I don't think that John Bennett, the trombonist, gets enough credit for his part in the KB success story - a superb player. He was with KB right from the start. Mark you, they clearly enjoyed drinking together after the event!

The American masters, Crosby & Hope, covered Chicago Style , which I have always liked, but I must admit that Ball's band absolutely kills it here. Now THAT is music, folks!!!! Now i'm off to shop for music by this marvelous band!

Sad news that Vic Pitt, bass player, passed away recently. Great musician and great man to have known as a friend for many years. We also lost his brother, Tony, who also played in Kenny's band earlier in the year...... R.I.P. both... from Syd..

I just started practicing the second piece in this video, since there's no title attributed to it, I was a bit lost as to what to call it. Well I just found a copy of Pete Fountain biography (signed by him too!) and in the first few pages he talks about a Bob Crosby record, March of the Bobcats. I pulled it up on youtube and there is it! Just in case anybody else was curious.

Let's see. That's Kenny and John Bennett, obviously. Andy Cooper isn't there yet, the clarinetist is Dave Jones, so it has to be before 1967. Vic Pitt is on the bass so it's after 1959. The pianoman is Ron Weatherburn, but he didn't leave until 1969 so that doesn't tell us anything. Going out on a bit of a limb, I'd say some time after 1963, the year they starred in Live It Up!, because the hairdos are less "pompadour".

I fell in love with this music thanks to Tony Robinson and his then Fiancee Barbara with the Sutton Chicago Jazz Band in 1959. Imagine my delight when I took up the clarinet 50 years later in the antipodes and I discovered they are now the Chicago Jazz Aces of Highcliffe Dorset. I still love Chicago style. Thank you all players.

I think Vic Pitt is the only surviving original band member left. I can’t get any information on Paddy Lightfoot although Terry his brother has passed. Vic was a teenager when I first met him. Condolences to all concerned. 🌠

Cerrainly not a tenor banjo, nor tenor bjo tuning. Plectrum banjo, but I cannot be sure what tuning he is using. Possibly guitar? Good player anyway, somewhat underated. Remember hearing him with this band, and others.

Gotta be the great Davy Jones, alas also no longer with us - he died at a young age of 67 in 2000. This band of Ball's in the 60's+ was the best! Wot a lineup!
