Ok as pure as whity is he had no right to tell this story. He saw that it was making David uncomfortable but he still told it

That’s why I don’t view this as the “Davey acts out” scene. Whitey was 100% in the wrong here.

I don't mean this as any kind of disrespect for old people but often I think sometimes when people get older or to a certain age they kind of lose a sense of judgment and consideration on certain things and they don't think about how going into certain stories or subjects may make others uncomfortable or could flat trigger some horrible or traumatic memories and feelings and they lack consideration about certain things being only for whomever it may concern to bring up or talk about. I seem to witness a lot of that and have been on the other end of having older people nonchalantly asking me questions or bringing up certain things that they should have enough common sense to know it's not polite or considerate to ask me about or to bring up without my consent.

that the thing well whity thought he did nothing wrong he fail to see how david was going to react as their a reason you don't bring up peoples personal lifes and screw ups as some of it can still hurt or be deep and sometimes you can make the problem worse if it makes them feel uneasy with you

@@brettjohnson536 Davey could have been less hostile and more careful with his choice of words to Whitey and Eleanor and still be firm and strict enough to make his point understood but he was right to be angry with Whitey for telling his story and bringing everything up for him in his mind. That was Davey's call and not Whitey's or anyone else's.

I think the movie would’ve worked if it removed the gross out comedy, and it took place during this time when all the main characters were kids. Have an opening that would take place on that very night, and then the rest of the story can be told a year later, where Davey tries to receive closure within the Hanukkah of that respective year.

Well, that would have been a good story and certainly much less tragic and less troublesome for the town who had to deal with Davey's jackass behavior through the years, but then I guess it wouldn't be a cartoony Adam Sandler movie either if it wasn't told like it was.

Yea I agree. This movie could've been a genuine experience if it didnt have so much forced, unfunny, and immature humor slathered all over it Adam Sandler almost had gold and he turned it into copper

I thought when I saw this scene, It was extremely sad and very depressing to lose parents like that, especially when you’re still alive very young. I couldn’t imagine how hard it would be for real to lose parents like that.
@JamesSmith-jq6om
@JamesSmith-jq6om 9 күн бұрын
@PunksGitRekt it is. My mom died when I was only 10, her only 34. It's a pain that as a young child you honestly don't know how it doesn't kill you and the heaviness of having to live your life without the deceased parent stays with you all the way through your days. It's been 32 years and it's still just as heavy to me as it was in the immediate days to follow.

I noticed that everyone had mentioned that Davey's outburst was justified and Whitey had no right to tell the story, there was actually one thing that still bothers me. What bothered me was Davey spent the following 6 years after his parents' passing going through multiple foster homes until he turned 18. Where was the rest of his extended family? Were they living in a different state/country? Why didn't one of his friends, or better yet, why didn't Jennifer and her family take him in?

Ok, so, I think we all agree on two things: 1. This tragic, traumatic backstory feels completely out of place for a movie filled with gross potty jokes; poo, jock straps, etc., is poorly executed with Whitey's grating, obnoxious voice narrating, and its attempt to make us sympathize for Davey pretty much botched by his appalling outburst. 2. Even then, Davey's lashout can be justified seeing how sensitive this was to Davey, and was already asking Whitey not to go there when he knew it was coming, and Whitey blissfully proceeded to do anyway. Whitey had absolutely no business to bring up that story, especially against Davey's wishes.

Honestly a weird way to introduce the tragic backstory of your main character. It makes Whitey come off insensitive, and it's hard to take seriously with his weird sister talking the way she does in some strange effort to mix in comedy and awkwardness.

Now looking back on the scene I don’t blame Davy for having an outburst, yes Whitey was in the wrong for bringing up his trauma but Davey simply had told Whitey multiple times to shut down the conversation neither him or Eleanor could read the room that it was making Davey uncomfortable

I can't believe it! Davey Stone had scored 10 points and 1 assist in the JCC Miracle game. That's what I like about this movie. Because of the basketball scenes. 🏀

So Whitey was about to turn 70 in the present time,so 20 years earlier he would have been turning 50. In the flashback he has more hair and has a mustache but he still has the same speech and mannerisms as a 70 year old in present time.

That could be due to his disabilities.
@JamesSmith-jq6om
@JamesSmith-jq6om 8 ай бұрын
@@FreakyFirestorm could be. The only thing that is stated to indicate that he has any disabilities is when he tells Davey at the mall that he can't read. Of course he apparently is epileptic since he has seizures. And his illiteracy could be linked to a mental disability that has affected his physical mannerisms throughout his life as well,along with his epilepsy.
