Not big on instrumentals, but Dave has worked his magic and made this an incredible listen. Candy Dulfer does more than just hold up her end of things and delivers an amazing performance. Wonderful chill vibe. Thanks for the memories once again, Boys.

Thanks, Ryan, for whatever part you had in this pivot. Yes, “Lily Was Here” was Dave Stewart’s tune but when it dropped in ‘89, it was viewed as Candy’s song. Anyway, I appreciate the reaction. 😎 (The video is interspersed with clips from the film of the same name about an interracial teen couple in the Netherlands)

I have Candy Dulfer's Saxuality album released in 1990. Played it to death. I didn't know Lily was Here was written by Stewart or that it was part of a movie soundtrack. Glad you checked out an instrumental, something a little different for you guys.

Yes, Candy Dulfer ❤! She's got great albums particularly Sax A gogo like Mister Marvin, 2funky, Smooth, Jamming, I can't make you love me and many more. Also, She sings. Candy's music is rockin, grooving when played nice and loud. Dave Stewart is from the successful Eurythmics. Thanks for reacting to Candy Dulfer.

Candy Dulfer is amazing. Saw her live twice. Have to admit, I had a big crush on her, and when they had a Meet and Greet, she was really nice. Her dueling saxes album with her dad is really fun. My favorite solo album of hers is What Does it Take from 1999.

Dave Stewart was doing such great producing in the Eurythmics years. One song with the most wonderful production touches tucked in and setting a nighttime mood, is "This City Never Sleeps" by the Eurythmics. Not as much vocal showing off by Annie Lennox in this one as in some other songs I love from them, but I'm suggesting it for the mood and production. The city sounds Dave Stewart saved and programmed/manipulated into the latest synth he had bought. For the longest time, whenever I listened again, I kept pickng up some new thing he had woven in.

This is a GREAT piece of music, only made BETTER by Candy's flawless saxophone playing ! I've heard this song for 30 plus years and it is one of my favorites THAT STICKS WITH ME ! VERY MEMORABLE !!!

I think she was on Late Night with David Letterman back in 89 or 90 when I first heard this and had to go get it the next day. It's just so good it still sounds fresh today.

Smooth jazz usually tries to be more like ambient music: smooth sounding, very lush and layered but not loud nor "weird" enough to grab the attention too much (and scare away potential consumers). Very different from regular jazz, where either the main theme takes over and is VERY memorable (Caravan, Lonely Woman, Blue Bossa, Mack the Knife) or the musicians do very flashy solos (Breezin', Milestones, Are You Going With Me?). So, actually what Nick said does check with the genre, it's a SOLID smooth jazz piece. "Just memorable enough" to be enjoyed by anyone. If it was a more "memorable", its target market would be irremediably reduced.

My late BFF, sent me her video of this, since I had just adopted a tiny black gorgeous kitty. I named her Lilly, ( lil bit). That was the cutest kitty I'd ever had . She was so fluffy, playful and loving. Unfortunately, she never got to grow up. She suddenly passed away one night. I was heartbroken! We never figured out what killed her. One minute she's zooming, then she went down so fast..no time. To find a vet on a Sunday. Lilly is missed.

This was good on so many levels! First, maybe cuz I am still sad this week, my buddy, Patrick, that just past was a sax player. His band will be in Louisville Sunday again. So it hits home. 😊❤😢 Second, didn't know what to think when I first saw you were going to do this song. I knew Dave Stewart was in the Eurythmics and married to Annie Lennox. But did not know about all his other ventures. But man where was this song all my life. This was so good! His guitar, her playing sax, the drums - everything! Don't know if I want to see the movie, but saw Tim Curry in one of the clips. If she played the whole song by herself or he played the guitar the whole time - they would both sound great. Love the tone of the guitar. Again, so unexpected and I will listen to this over and over!!! Side note: always love your analogies: "saxuality"/janitor/ Butch. I sang "Anything You Can Do" for my Final in high School choir. (Think I got an A) Three pointers (Steph and Klay). Smooth Jazz was pretty popular around that time, I remember Chicago had a Smooth Jazz channel. Great song! Great reaction!

They showed "Lily" several times ... once with a Black man, her being dressed down to match his style, then as the 2 versions you saw. I think the idea is when she was in the persona at the bar (showing the tattoo), that was her when she was "off" and just trying to wind down, listening to "the band". Also, remember, this was from Candy's album, so she SHOULD have the "lion's share" of the solo work ... because it's "her" song, so to speak.
