I saw him in a Chicago bar in the 90s. He was old, and had to sit the whole performance. At one point, he was heckled by some dude at a table who didn’t know any better. Coe stopped cold in the middle of the song and glared at the kid and said in a flat tone, “I’ll whip you, boy.” The kid shut up, and the show went on.

He played a dive bar called Club 190 (on US190) a few miles outside of Covington, Louisiana one night. Some drunk heckled him and DIDN’T shut up. Corey Stuckey I know DAC has a lot of racist lyrics, but in this particular song, the phrase "working like a n****r" is actually an old saying that means "busting your butt doing hard work for little pay." David Allan Coe has been my favorite Country Singer since I started listening to him in 1975 when I was a sophomore in High School. Saw him in 1980-81 at the turn of the Century in Denver.. What a show and interesting crowd. Bikers and Cowboys Such a much better time in this used to be Republic. God Bless y'all. Keep your powder dry...

I met him at a dive bar in manhattan back in 2002 6 months after 9/11. My mom was a nurse who drove 8 hours after the first plane hit. To help. My brother was an iron worker who went the few weeks post 9/11 to help clean up. But me and my wife wanted to pay our respects. So we drove out and there’s a bar called “Kenny’s castaways” on bleaker st. We took our flowers and said a prayer at the site and then went bar hopping for the night. And in the corner of this five bar there he was sitting there. Bought him a drink and said hello. He was a very nice man. I’m native. Seneca to be exact. After we sat down he came over and hung out for almost a hour just BS’in. It was a night I’ll never forget.

Superegular it's Funny pussys like you never say that shit face to face. Now as a true son of the south and a glorious descendant of Jefferson davis, im here to say you'll never be country... Especially if you can't be a man and speak your mind face to face. An ass whooping only hurts for a lil while soyboi. Also respect is a highly valued aspect all country folks have, you clearly ain't got shit but the misery filled head. Hints why you wanna be a edgy bitch.

I’m glad my father (sadly deceased going on two years March 19) introduced me to David Allen Coe’s songs. I miss listening to all the vinyl records my dad had. Very good times and best music I remember listening to, and still listen to now.

What happened to your dads records ? didn't you keep them ?
@shawnmills21462 жыл бұрын
@@dragons8822 sadly no, my mom decided to be a bitch and while I was at work burned a lot of my dads belongings, or even sold them. Ultimately it’s not the items I cherish that I still have from him. It’s the memories to me that matter the most. Was I pissed to see my dads vinyl records being burned when I got back home yes I was, but they’re only items. However I did manage to save one David Allen Coe record. So that one record I have is not leaving my sight until I’m dead, but I’m glad I still have the memories.

David Allen coe was a bad and deeply troubled and lost person when around the time we wrote this song. The reason why this resonates with so many ppl is because of how real it is. There is no better example of that in music in my opinion. Listening to the updated version shows how far he has come as a human.
