Southern rock has always been a mix of country, rock and roll, and blues. Jerry Garcia played steel guitar for New Riders of the Purple Sage, a West Coast stoner country country band. Check out Panama Red, Dirty Business, Linda, Honey, and others. Grateful Dead did songs like Tennessee Jed, Friend of Devil and others. Dicky Betts is a classic southern rock guitarist. Vince Gill played with Pure Prairie League etc. People get to damn focused on genre. Who gives a rat's ass?

Wow..a 23 year old Warren Haynes...Funny Story how he was hired...Coe approached him about the gig..Haynes said "I"M NOT A COUNTRY GUITAR PLAYER..COE said..I DON"T WANT A COUNTRY PICKER..I WANT A ROCK PICKER". Later Coe would do shows with Dicky Betts and the rest is history ....

Does anyone know the songwriting history of this song and the Rides Again album it was on? This song was solely credited to his wife, Deborah Lynne Coe, on the album and DAC was only credited as songwriter on 2 songs on the entire album. I assume he did write this song and all the other ones his wife is the one credited for. This was the only album like this where his wife was credited instead of him. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Steve Bishop (Bob's brother) who switched off playing lead or bass for DAC for years and years once said that DAC lifted the chord progression off of a Byrds song whose name escapes me at the moment. Considering the lyrics of the first verse, I'd bet that was the plagiarized source. I'm just happy those swishy phased-out guitar tones died out in country years ago; they never "fit" anyone but Waylon anyhow.
