Emeralds, I am gonna place before you what was said to me in a LOGIC class I took in college when asked for proof of God's existence, "Lack of proof does not mean lack of existence." That happens to be something that is called a logical fallacy, that lack of proof means lack of existence, it goes both ways. Therefore I take my faith personally and let others do the same. I believe in God, a higher power, and care not what he is called, merely that he is and I will face the consequences of my belief or lack thereof when I exit this existence. Like many others, I would rather believe and act as if there is a god and be proven wrong, then act as if there is no god and be proven wrong.

I played this song for my mom as she lay dying of cancer. I listened to it every day in the days leading up to her death. I love the spirit and the peace and the strength it brings to my heart when I hear it. Now hearing it reminds me of those sweet moments with my mother. I turned to this song because someone close to me just left the Church and ever since she told me I've been really confused and lost and anxious and afraid. I remember praying to God and asking him "why won't you just give her the peace she needs? Why don't you care about her?" But in listening to this song, other songs by David Archuleta, and other religious songs, I've realized a few important things that I had forgotten about. God loves everyone, regardless of what they believe, and regardless of their mistakes. Because he loves us, he has given us a wonderful gift: the gift to choose for ourselves. That gift is what allows us to make mistakes. To learn. To grow. The challenges we face will help us become who we were meant to be. Life wasn't meant to be easy. It wasn't meant to be pain-free. Even the most faithful individuals have to suffer. Joseph Smith, Abinadi, Nephi, the Apostle Paul, Noah, Moses, Elijah, I mean the list goes on. Even Jesus, the world's only perfect person, had to suffer. But He not only suffered the normal pains of everyday life, but also all the pain, guilt, and sorrow of the countless people on the countless worlds that have ever been created. And He chose to suffer all of that so He could help us with our struggles. We don't have to go through our pain alone. We only have to turn to Him, and our burdens will be made lighter. But we have to be the ones to open the door. We have to be the ones to let Him in. We have to believe, or at least desire to believe, that He can help us. We have to ask in faith, and act in faith. God's not going to hand everything over on a silver platter. Because then we would never learn and grow into the people we were meant to be. Just as it takes enormous amounts of heat and pressure for a piece of coal to become a diamond, it takes a lot of struggling, heartache, and pain for us to become the perfected beings we were meant to be. But in order for those struggles to benefit us, we have to turn our hearts to Christ. His hand is outstretched towards us. All we have to do is take it. So maybe the person close to me who left just doesn't realize how much God truly loves her. Maybe she doesn't recognize the answers to her prayers. Maybe she hasn't learned to fully trust Him. And if that's the case, God's not going to force salvation down her throat. His hand is always outstretched towards her, but she has to be the one to take His hand. So while I don't know all the answers as to why her struggles have never ceased, I know that God does. And I believe that the struggles she faces will ultimately be for her benefit. I have faith that eventually she will come to recognize all the ways He has blessed her, and that she will turn to Him.

My Dad listened to this at Christmas time and said when he served in the war it didn't matter what the individuals beliefs were, If their lives where in danger, every one of them prayed. I am drawn to listen to this song because it reminds me that my relationship with God is meaningful. That I am loved and need to pray not because I have a difficult time at this moment in my life, but because I want to develop my faith and know God's plan for me. Then if I ever really do need him I will know his comfort and presence in my life.

God has a divine plan for each one of us. Sometimes we cannot see what that plan is. Our vision is so limited. We see through a glass darkly. This Earth life is just a split second in the grand eternal plan. We lived before, we will live again. Jesus Christ has descended below every pain and trial we have ever experienced. God never forsakes us. Even when we lose sight of his plan for us and turn our backs on God he continues to have his hand outstretched. His love is unending and his light is in all things and through all things. We all go through trials and hardships that are heart-wrenching. Many things we simply cannot understand. This is all part of the plan that our heavenly father has for us. This is part of the grand school of life. Remember that this life is just a blink of eternity. Hold fast. Endure to the end. Stay true to the light and love that God has given us. You don't have to understand everything. Trust in Him. Do not turn your back on him as so many are now. Do not lose hope. He is the only one who truly understands what we are all going through. He will fill your soul with immeasurable piece and joy. God is merciful and forgiving. There is nothing that we have done that the redemption of Christ cannot heal us from. We are not meant to understand everything. This life we are all to walk by faith. That is part of our eternal journey of progression. We must go through sorrow in order to fully appreciate the joy that awaits. Don't give up. Keep pressing forward in faith.

I remember the first time I heard this song, I was having a really rough day. This video came up in my recommendations, and it was EXACTLY what I needed to hear that day. @Emerica Keing This is directly from his blog/website: "Something I try to do to each day is begin by saying a prayer in the morning, and then end my day with a prayer at night. Sometimes, however, I fall asleep before I say my nightly prayer. One time almost a year ago I had one of these nights where I fell asleep before saying a prayer. Something unusual happened. That night I had a dream. It was different than anything I had experiences before. In my dream I was praying-having a conversation with God. The conversation was also different. I was singing. I could hear simple chords in my dream that I was laying a simple melody and prayer on top of. As I was having this conversation in music with God, He told me to get up and write this down. I thought and said, “…but… I’m sleeping. I’m not sure I know how to get up from a dream!” He told me “if you don’t get up now, you’ll forget it in the morning.” I tried everything I could to wake up, and I did! There in the middle of the night I went straight to the piano with the words and melody I had spoken in my dream still clear in my head, and wrote it all down. It was the fastest I had ever written a song because I feel this one was given to me. I’ve sung this song several times this year now and people kept asking where to find it so I felt it would be good to share it during this Holiday season. I hope you enjoy it and find encouragement to begin your own simple and sincere conversations in prayer!"

I had absolutely no idea about the story behind this song. All I know is that no song has hit me this hard since I was a young child in primary hanging on to hope in life with the song, "A Child's Prayer". When my three oldest kids visit every other weekend, I sing to them to put them to sleep. they each have their own lullaby that I wrote when they were born. Then I do some quiet church songs. For the last two years, we've listened to this song as part of that routine, almost every night. I cannot tell you the amount of times I have found myself in tears during hard times, using the words of this song to guide my heart to open up and reach my Heavenly Father. Thank you for waking up. I believe you woke many of us up in our own darkness as well. Thanks to you, I found another flicker of light to guide me Home. 🙏

Living a life of delusion is not an attribute, but a hindrance. Try this: Pray to Jesus to please speak to you audibly creating sound that your eardrums pick up. In this prayer, please ask him to tell you that he is real. You may be irritated that I write this but ask yourself why? Is it because I dare to question this religion you are pushing? If you were an adult, you would test your beliefs with honesty. I know the outcome of this prayer I am asking you to do. You will not get a response back. Why? Because this "Jesus" and "God" that you believe in ARE NOT REAL. Now go forth and teach your children to pray to an invisible friend and teach them that this invisible friend created them, loves them and makes everything possible. THEN ASK YOURSELF who are the false preachers who are like sheep in wolves clothing? It is CHILD ABUSE to lie to your children with things you do not know as fact especially on something you are asking them to wrap their entire lives around. Why even send them to school at all? You could just tell them that the only thing they will ever need in life is "God's" love right? Spend all of your hard earn money at the church... you know you will never see a penny of it again. And the next time you place your dollars in the offering plate, think about how you will explain to your children, how you will not be able to afford their college education because you gave it all... to this "God" that does not answer you.... EVER.

I love this song, my favorite in ever way. This song was inspired for me too, when I was on mission I got really sick and I could not walk and I did not understand WHY but 3 days later I heard this song and I really could understand that God has a plan for me, He know better. Thanks David.

Just came from your concert in Arlington, TX. Beautiful! I fell in love with this song. Your heartfelt comments while at the keyboard were well spoken and thought-provoking. I am from the same faith background as you, though have not had the same struggles as you nor Can I even begin to comprehend how you have felt. I hope you are feeling the love and acceptance of many both in and out of your faith community… we all have much to learn about loving those who “sin differently than we do” … because we ALL sin one way or another.
