I am non religious, yet I listen to this song over and over until I feel the pain. We all have a responsibility with the children of the world, specially those who do not have access to the love and care we give to our children. We can't continue to allow children to be invisible. Sometimes they are very invisible like our neighbors or homeless kids. It is our turn to care for them as other generations cared for us. Lets help them to be happy and better off. Love and time can be given for free.

David is the REAL THING and this song was written for one part of the world but is relevant today with the tragedy in Haiti. This should be the anthem and David's performance of this song is magical. God bless him and all the children in need around this world.

I think David's solo performance is beautiful and conveys well the meaning and sadness of the song. I applaud David for supporting so many children's charities and rallying his fans to do the same. I don't care if anyone thinks a choir could have done it better. David sings songs he cares about and that includes this song by his friend Kurt Bestor (who also produced, arranged and conducted much of David's Christmas album and the BEGIN album). Kurt Bestor accompanied David at the SLC concert.

My choir sings this every year... it's such a beautiful and powerful song. Just the opening words bring tears to my eyes.

At 5:04-5:23 he breaks my heart, for he makes me feel the cries, fear, anguish, pain, and sadness, of children of war... without singing an actual word. What an incredible talent David is.

I love this song. I've sung two different arrangements of it on stage; SATB and SSAA. I also love the message behind this song. When I was in honor choir and they told us about the hospital of children attacked that inspired this song.... I cry every time I sing it now, or even hear it. So, Go DA for singing such an amazingggggg song!

Wow. I've always really liked David Archuleta and the fact that he's singing one of my top 5 songs makes me love him that much more. When I taught music last year, I had my choir sing this song and it never fails to bring me to tears. Great job, Archie ^_^

Also, I will be performing this with my community choral society SATB in February. I watched a number of choirs perform it on KZbin this evening, even TTBB. I still enjoy David's version best. I think we may get accustomed to hearing a song performed a certain way, and then we're not prepared to hear a profoundly different version. At least, this is what I've learned about myself through the years. I look forward to hearing what David will do when he returns home from serving the Lord.

oh my gosh I love this in Black and White. The introduction to the song was just as moving as the performance. David is a great ambassador for all of his childrens' charities. I loved this performance last night - thank you so much for capturing it.

Actually it was written for the children during the civil war that split Yugoslavia into Bosnia, Serbia, and Croatia. The guy who wrote the song, Kurt Bestor, lived in Yugoslavia during the 1970's and therefore had a personal connection to many of the people affected by the war, and this song was for the children struggling to live through such a difficult time.

Personally, for me, I've listened to a few other recordings of "A Prayer For the Children", including Kurt Bestor's and Three Dog Night's,but I feel that David A.'s version here is the best one. His voice is sincere and conveys the true desperation of the words, and his improvisation serves to relay the true meaning of the song. For such a very young man, I am impressed with the depth of his understanding and his ability to help us feel and understand the purpose of the music.

@BardinJamesBishop David's "talking" always has a heartfelt message and what he is "talking" about in this video is worth hearing. He is explaining what charities are important to him and why the song is so special. His fans like hearing what he has to say :)

My choir sang this song and we received a standing O!! I think it was more of the message sent than the voices singing...I majored in music, so I've been trained to know when I hear something and it sounds good!!! And David did an AMAZING job!! So u who said this did no justice, shame on you!! This song isn't about how well it was sang, it's about the message David was trying to get across!!

Huh. I'm shocked at how beautiful the song still is as a solo, however, it can't compare to the impact of a men's choir. Stripping harmony out of it flattens the emotion. The first time I heard this song, sung by 'The Mad Hatters' from the University of Wisconsin, the hair on the back of my neck stood on end, it was that powerful. Now it's just a "pretty" song.
@JusticeFairland12 жыл бұрын
He gets the point of the song and did it well. He sang it with emotion, and emotion that you don't just make up. That has to be from the heart, and it was. The echo I don't think he could have helped, and yes it's better in a group because the chords are beautiful, but he still did well, and I think a lot like him, like go out and help people and I love this song along with him, so I get what he was saying. Obviously you didn't, but sure, keep on hating.

@zmatsko well not really just a men's choir. my school's whole choir sung it and half the crowd was in tears at the end. the sopranos really added a nice touch.

I definitely agree that it doesn't have nearly the impact that an A cappella performance does. Also good job to the girls screaming nonsense when he's trying to talk about something serious. Very respectful

But I agree with the comments said about how, a choir singing this song it's more emotional, hearing the harmony just makes the song...I'm a 2nd S and I'd kill to sing the alto harmony on this song!! It's an AMAZING piece!!!

@benhbook He had gone to Serbia. In this song, he was talking about Serbian, Croatian, and Bosnian children with no homes.
@Noltan7413 жыл бұрын
@TheHawkster97 the reason they sing it better is because they have several voices to create harmonies... DUH

Kinda saddening, because Kurt wrote this song after returning to a Childrens hospital in (country, i can't remember at the moment) to deliver medicine. And when he returned, the hospital, and hundreds of innocent youthful lives were taken; leveled.

@amazedsoul listen to an ensemble performance, that is the way it is meant to be performed and sounds so much better (with good performers, obviously), it is much more moving that way

Hannah...too bad some people have to be so critical of someone's attempt at singing a beautiful song. David does a beautiful job on the song and how you can say he did otherwise makes me question your reasoning for putting him down. Shame on you!

NOOOOOOOO!!!! I really wanted to hear him hit the high notes on the "oohs". When my choir did this song, not the whole group couldn't hit the higher notes, so me and a few others got to do an (correct me if im wrong, but i dont know a better word for it) ensemble where everyone dropped out except for about 15 people at the "ooh ooh la da dohm"s , and it was the best performance our men's select did all year. If you want to hear the higher version, wathch the baylor university.

@zmatsko sorry i don't :P i wish i did though :) i think it was probably the best performance our choir had ever done.

nah. its meant to be sung by a mens choir. it doesnt have the same impact without the rest of the voice parts. ive def gotta disagree with amazedsoul its not nearly as moving wen he sings it

Not feeling this rendition. No one does this song better than the original members of Three Dog Night! 😊

a solo voice simply does not have the effect that an ensemble has. he is a great singer, but he can't compare with some of the choirs i have heard sing this.
@JusticeFairland12 жыл бұрын
Singing A Cappella has nothing to do with the strength of a voice, I couldn't even hear the piano either, he drowned the piano with his voice.

In the first 40 seconds he butchered it in my opinion. Baylor mens choir or Voice Male sings it much better.

he talks too much. and there is more to the song, bc its a choir piece. he has a good voice but this wasnt the song for him
