I've been posting comments for months about David on numerous videos, and I've strained my vocabulary in a futile attempt to describe him and his singing. This time I am truly at a loss for words. This song, already a classic, has risen to mythic status after this performance. To hear this and see him sing this live must be an out of body experience. Now I have to refill my box of Kleenex.

Everyone talks about the purity of his voice, and how he can mesmerize audiences, and they're right. John Lennon might have been the most significant song writer of the last century, with Imagine being his "crown jewel." David's voice with all its power and dynamics captures the song as it was meant to be sung. However its his innocence that does it for me. Only a child can dream and believe that a perfect world exists, and its that emotion that makes DA's version of "Imagine" work.

Donna1254, thanks for your feedback. What David has done with this song is unheard of in the history of music. It would be like someone taking a song like "People", which is Barbra Streisand's signature song, and making it their song. That has never happened. Could you imagine (no pun intended) "Strangers in the Night" not being a Frank Sinatra song? Of course not. It's as if John Lennon wrote this song so this beautiful young man could give it new life 37 years after he wrote it.

Lennon wrote "Imagine" to be a provocative, political message. It is also a beautiful song on its own. David sings it as a personal, emotional hymn, with no political agenda. That makes it purer,IMO. David's version is aimed at and goes right to your heart, and rips it open (unless it's locked)David feeels this song from the deepest parts of his soul, and invites the listener to join him. If you do, you are rewarded by a musical experience like none other before. It's overwhelming,actually.

mynameis...!!! Elvis covered a lot of songs (You are always on my mind, my way etc..). if you follow American Idol, you would know why David Archuleta covered Imagine and other songs. Most of the songs on his First album of his singing career are original. In fact, David co-wrote some of them.

Hi Kuj4z. i respect your opinion. When you said "he should stick to rnb and pop", it is kind of ironic. David Archuleta was known by singing ballads in American Idol. To be honest, i was kind of worry when he decided to put out a Pop Album. One of the judges, Randy Jackson on American Idol said "David Archuleta can sing the fone book" . David Archuleta has proved Randy right by releasing his debut POP album. Again, ppls should not compare D.A. and Lennon. IT is not fair for both of them.
