That's only a small part of it. We live in societies where our choices have been provided to us by governer and corporations. We need to elect people who are willing to make the big changes required. To give us the choices to easily do the right thing.
@grantlaing74653 жыл бұрын
While personal choices play a role, our choices are largely limited by the social, technological, economic, and power structures in which we as individuals are embeded. Inherent in this larger human machine is a mentality that understands wealth only in material terms, value as something measured in currency, and the world, natural or human, as means rather than as an end in itself. Elections alone will not change this. It will require the greater measure of humankind forcefully demanding of those who hold power to implement the radical change necessary to move us away from devistating human kind, and the greater natural world.

The majority of the change needs to come from the top. The only way to significantly reduce CO2 emissions is to nationalize energy grids and build nuclear energy systems to replace fossil fuel generators. In the US, we also need to work on significantly reducing cargo transport by truck and to increase rail transport. That rail transport system will also need to be electrified. The only way to eliminate fossil fuel use for heating in homes is to equip every home with a heat pump system, and the only way that this will happen on a significant scale is if the government provides people with those systems and pays for their installation. We also need to build a more robust public transportation system in the US. All of these things can only be made to happen by those at the top, individual choices are of little consequence.

The very nature of business is commodification of everything and anything to maximize profits. However, the structure itself is the problem, as corporate entities (along with their funded representatives who create laws giving them prioritized standing, such as Citizens United allowing corporations to have unbridled influence in elections) then focus solely on profit, ultimately leading to a blatant disregard for any factors that would diminish profit. One of these major factors is the environment, which winds up abandoned after it is stripped of all resources, contaminated or rendered useless. We fail to recognize the environment is not limitless and requires balance to operate in a sustainable fashion. With nearly 8 billion people and climbing, we've reached a population that is widely imbalanced compared to other forms of life on our planet. How far can the chasm grow before it collapses is the big question. Attenborough seems to be saying the collapse has already started. Others, like Trump, seems to be saying everything is fine, it's all a hoax or "fake news." I'm inclined to believe the former, seeing the latter as a self-serving oaf who cares only about filling his (and his supporter's) coffers today. I suspect if our population was cut in half we'd still have thriving numbers, but far greater balance (and harmony) with the natural world...

Fun fact. His net worth is more than everyones in the comment section combined and the amount of fuel he and his crew have burned jollying around the globe is astronomical.

We’re not doomed,this earth will last forever this is the reassuring promise of our creator who also promises that he will bring to ruin the one’s who are ruining earth Rev 11 :18 .regarding the programs that display the earths pristine beauty and design with such fantastic photography it then deprives people of hope by promoting the theory of evolution suggesting that life came about by pure chance and has no purpose,it’s no wonder then that the world has the selfish attitude,along with greed and arrogance Thats so prevalent today,this is why we need to come to know our creator so that we become approved by him ,draw close to him and be the beneficiary’s of a beautiful future for the earth

Honestly I'd rather let animals live on this planet than us. We destroy everything we touch. Unfortunately most people are good, but few people run this world, so we have no chances. It's fair let for the animals.

i love him hes a beautiful soul, a natural teacher. i believe hes an ascended master incarnated. this man loves this planet and dedicated his life educating us. giving many of us in childhood a love for nature that carried on into adulthood. i just planted over 400 fast growing trees in the last year as well as slow growing trees and over 50 bushes. and made my home a nature reserve thats now attracting all kinds of wildlife this summer. i spent six months cleaning up a coastline by myself slowly backpacking the rubbish out that ended up out the sea on the sand. We can all do out part and his pay it forward has us millions paying it forward to save our wildlife and planet.

2:29 fwiw my 2 choices today: save a praying mantis from being ground up from my co2 spewing lawn mower; save a cicada nymph (ready to molt) stuck in the middle of a man made road (put it in a tree to molt).

The time line shows how good the planet was until humans started inventing more and more things, but as we did that we are closer than we ever to destroying this planet if said if humans were to do something about the ocean its now or never before its too late.
